This study was necessitated due to the conflicts in Nigerian university system such as the universities' management and ASUU as it has been a threat to Nigerian educational and social development. This is unwholesome for the university community and Nigeria educational system as a whole. It was for this reason that this research titled emotional intelligence and conflict management in selected Federal universities in South East Zone of Nigeria. This study was anchored on Personality Trait Theory. The population of the study was 2271 and it was obtained from respective selected federal universities in South East Zone of Nigeria. Purposive or judgmental sampling technique was adopted in selecting two universities from a total of six (6) universities in the zone. Taro Yamane's formula was used to determine a sample size of 340 and Bowley's proportional allocation formula was used to allocate copies of questionnaire to each of the universities. The study employed survey research design using structured questionnaire to elicit data. The questionnaire developed for this study was subjected to content validity and the reliability obtained was 0.83. The study adopted the use of multiple regression analysis to test the hypothesis at 0.05 significant level. The findings revealed that there is a significant positive relationship between empathy (emotional awareness, self-evaluation) and obliging style of handling conflict in south east zone of Nigeria. The study concluded that empathy helps the school managements and lecturers to be aware of others emotions and react politely to them; and it helps in emotional awareness of one's limitations and strengths so as to avert and handle conflict in Universities in South East Zone of Nigeria. The researcher recommended that the management of the universities in South East Zone of Nigeria should adopt empathy through emotional awareness, self-evaluation with obliging style of handling conflict so as to enable adequate and effective management of conflict within the university system.
The stiff competition in the prices of oil and gas in the global market has prompted the oil and gas companies in Rivers State to lookout for ways to keep their companies on top and afloat. The profitability and investment of these companies seem not to have increased significantly. This necessitated the study to determine how employee resourcing relates to performance of selected oil and gas companies in Rivers state. The study specifically seeks to ascertain how team deployment relates to service sustainability. The research question and hypothesis were formulated in line with the specific objective. Correlation survey research was utilized. Sample size of 400 was determined from the population of 2,395. Pearson Product Moment Correlation was used for hypothesis testing. The result found out that there is a significant positive relationship between team deployment and service sustainability of these oil and gas companies in Rivers State. The findings show that unbiased team deployment strategy can help to sustain service delivery in the oil and gas companies. The study concludes that an adhoc and largely reactive approach to employee resourcing prevails within the industry in Rivers State. The study recommended that oil and gas companies in Rivers State should embrace employee resourcing in a strategic manner to acquire and maintain high quality employees that will enable them improve their performance.
The seeming frequent breakdown of machineries as a result of poor maintenance culture in the studied rice mills necessitated this study. The objective was to identify the extent of relationship that exists between maintenance culture and performance of selected Rice Mills in Ebonyi State. Correlation Survey Research Design was adopted for the study. The population of the study was 1024 and sample size was 279 arrived at using Krejcie and Morgan formula. Correlation analysis was adopted in analysing the data. The findings of the study revealed that a statistically significant relationship exists between corrective maintenance and machine availability with a correlation coefficient of .984. The study concluded that maintenance culture has a vital role to play in the performance of manufacturing outfits like the studied organizations. Sequel to this, it was recommended among other things that maintenance of equipment in the studied firms should not be done when there is total shutdown as this will amount to stoppage of work and that allowing machine to breakdown first could amount to huge capital outlay for repair and therefore should be avoided by the studied firms.
Youthprenurship in recent times has become a veritable tool in achieving sustainable development in both developed and developing countries. It is based on this, that this study examined youthpreneurship as a gateway to sustainable development in Southeast Nigeria, as a broad objective. It adopted a survey research design with a combined population of 200 youths selected randomly. A Likert structured questionnaire format was deployed for data collection. The analysis was carried out using correlation analysis, while hypotheses were tested at 5% level of significance. Findings revealed that there is a statistically significant positive relationship between youth empowerment and innovativeness (r = .981, p-value < 0.05). The study concluded that entrepreneurship remains one of the surest ways of getting employed and employing others. Among others, it was recommended that the creation of more youth empowerment programs should be one of the priorities of government and other well-meaning individuals, if they are serious about finding a way around unemployment in the region.
