<strong><strong></strong></strong><p>En el presente estudio se establecieron diferentes especificaciones ecoeficientes a considerar por Ingeniería y Construcción (IC), negocio del Instituto Costarricense de Electricidad (ICE) de Costa Rica, al momento de desarrollar una planta operativa dedicada al manejo de residuos, con el fin de hacer uso racional de los recursos y generar el menor impacto ambiental. Inicialmente se llevó a cabo un diagnóstico general para conocer el proceso actual de la gestión de residuos en IC, así como la identificación y valoración de sus aspectos e impactos ambientales. Luego se elaboró una propuesta de programa de ecoeficiencia para ser implementada una vez que se encuentre en operación la planta de residuos ordinarios, especiales y peligrosos. Como parte de la investigación también se identificaron las medidas y tecnologías ecoeficientes que pueden ser adoptadas por IC o cualquier organización para el mejoramiento de su gestión en materia de residuos. Finalmente, es necesario que el Programa de Gestión Ecoeficiente (PGE) sea organizado, planificado y sistematizado en el tiempo; asimismo, se plantea la necesidad de tener un comité de gestión de la ecoeficiencia, que permita implementarla y medirla mediante una serie de indicadores.</p>

El presente artículo corresponde a la conformación de mapas acústicos basados en la toma de datos de ruido en los cascos urbanos de los cantones de Heredia, Alajuela y Belén en Costa Rica. Para estose realizó un muestreo, utilizando sitios de denuncia por contaminación sónica en Alajuela y Belén, mientras que en Heredia se utilizaron los vértices de cada uno de los cuadrantes que conforman eldistrito Central como sitio de muestreo. El resultado más importante obtenido en este estudio está referido a la identificación en su mayoría de sitios con niveles de ruido que sobrepasan los límitespermisibles establecidos en el Reglamento de control de ruido que se pueden observar gráficamente en los mapas acústicos. Esto lleva a la conclusión de que los mapas acústicos representan unaherramienta fundamental para el control de ruido y planificación de estrategias de mitigación y confinamiento de áreas de impacto por contaminación sónica.

Debido a un cambio de paradigma ambiental y al incremento experimentado en la producción, en este artículo se presenta una propuesta para la remodelación del sedimentador de la empresa CONCREPAL, ubicada en Barranca, Costa Rica. Se presenta como una alternativa ecoeficiente que, a la vez, permite cumplir con la legislación vigente sobre vertido y reúso de aguas residuales. Inicialmente se realizó un diagnóstico ambiental de las características y rendimiento de la fosa de sedimentación. Posteriormente se elaboró el diseño de la propuesta de remodelación del sistema de tratamiento, incorporando la recirculación del agua tratada dentro del proceso productivo del quebrador de materiales. Finalmente se elaboró un modelo en tamaño real de la propuesta para realizar mediciones y así determinar la funcionalidad de la propuesta, con resultados positivos dentro del rango permitido por la legislación nacional sobre sólidos suspendidos totales (40 ± 0,01 mg/l). También se realizó un análisis costo–beneficio y una propuesta de gestión ambiental para la empresa. Se concluye que la propuesta es funcional para ser implementada en la empresa.
