Los estudios de morfometría brindan información sobre el funcionamiento hidrológico en unacuenca. El objetivo del estudio fue determinar parámetros morfométricos en la subcuenca del rioPáez, Cartago necesarias para planificación de las actividades de la cuenca y para un apropiado manejo. La construcción de la morfometría se basó en las curvas de nivel del Gran Área Metropolitana,escala 1:10000, y utilizando los Sistemas de Información Geográfica, se realizó la digitalización delas curvas de nivel, los drenajes y el parteaguas. Resultado del análisis morfométrico, se obtiene unárea de 28,34 km2 y un perímetro de 47,4270 km. Está compuesta por 22 microcuencas, un factorde forma de 0,1171indicando una subcuenca alargada. Un coeficiente de compacidad de 2,4942,indicando que es una cuenca elongada. Muestra una curva hipsométrica de tipo cóncava, donde elpico de la distribución altimétrica corresponde con las altitudes entre los 3315 m y los 980 m. Elparámetro pendiente con un valor de 29,3% de pendiente promedio. Es evidente la función quecumple la subcuenca para el desarrollo de las actividades productivas y para el abastecimiento deagua potable en algunos sitios Cartago.
Introducción: La precipitación es la fuente más importante en las zonas recarga hídrica y para asegurar su disponibilidad y manejo es importante evaluar los cambios de uso de la tierra. Objetivo: Medir el potencial de recarga hídrica en seis microcuencas cartaginesas. Métodos: Determinamos unidades hidrogeológicas con galgas, y propiedades físicas e hidráulicas directamente en campo. Usamos curvas topográficas para generar un modelo de elevación digital y perfiles longitudinales. Además, produjimos un mapa de cambio de uso de la tierra y determinamos el balance hídrico del suelo. Resultados: El área presenta buenas condiciones hidrogeológicas en cuanto a manantiales, señalando la conexión hidráulica de las unidades, y el suelo favorece la recarga de agua en las partes altas. Arriba, donde se ubican los manantiales, la mitad del terreno tiene cobertura forestal, lo que facilita la infiltración. El resto sustenta actividades agrícolas (39% en la parte media y baja de las cuencas). Las áreas forestales presentan menores valores de recarga potencial (aprox. <611.4mm) que las áreas de cultivos y pastos (792.32-796.29mm). Conclusión: El sitio presenta buenas condiciones hidrogeológicas y las áreas de cultivos y pastos tienen valores de recarga potencial más altos que los bosques.
El presente artículo corresponde a la conformación de mapas acústicos basados en la toma de datos de ruido en los cascos urbanos de los cantones de Heredia, Alajuela y Belén en Costa Rica. Para estose realizó un muestreo, utilizando sitios de denuncia por contaminación sónica en Alajuela y Belén, mientras que en Heredia se utilizaron los vértices de cada uno de los cuadrantes que conforman eldistrito Central como sitio de muestreo. El resultado más importante obtenido en este estudio está referido a la identificación en su mayoría de sitios con niveles de ruido que sobrepasan los límitespermisibles establecidos en el Reglamento de control de ruido que se pueden observar gráficamente en los mapas acústicos. Esto lleva a la conclusión de que los mapas acústicos representan unaherramienta fundamental para el control de ruido y planificación de estrategias de mitigación y confinamiento de áreas de impacto por contaminación sónica.
