Anthracnose, caused by Colletotrichum species, can severely infect the fruits and leaves of more than 30 plants and thus results in great yield and quality losses. To identify the major Colletotrichum species infecting walnut fruits, strawberry leaves, grape fruits, and tea leaves in Shandong Province, China, 101 strains were collected and isolated. The morphological characteristics of all isolates were observed, and multilocus phylogenetic analyses (ITS, GAPDH, ACT, TUB2, CAL, CHS-1, and HIS3) were conducted on the representative isolates. The strains were identified as five Colletotrichum species, namely, C. gloeosporioides sensu stricto, C. fructicola, C. camelliae, C. acutatum sensu stricto, and C. viniferum. Among them, C. viniferum was reported for the first time from walnut fruits and strawberry leaves in Shandong Province, China. Corresponding leaves or fruits were used as a model to clarify the pathogenicity of these isolates. The results showed that C. fructicola obtained from strawberry leaves was more aggressive than C. viniferum. All of the isolates obtained from various hosts were highly sensitive to pyraclostrobin, difenoconazole, fludioxonil, tebuconazole, pyrisoxazole, and tetramycin in terms of mycelial growth inhibition (EC50 values of 0.07 to 1.63 mg/liter). The fastest mycelial growth was observed in the temperature range of 25–28°C for all isolates. In addition, anthracnose symptoms occur frequently under these conditions. Overall, this study can improve the understanding of Colletotrichum species causing anthracnose in walnut fruits, strawberry leaves, grape fruits, and tea leaves and can provide a solid foundation for the effective control of this disease in different hosts.

BACKGROUND: Understanding performance matching of pesticide droplets on the surface of cucumber leaves modified by powdery mildew is of practical importance for the agricultural sector. Here, the surface texture and wettability of cucumber leaves covered by powdery mildew were systematically examined using parameters such as micromorphology, physicochemical properties, and liquid droplet contact angle measurements. RESULTS: Our results show that powdery mildew growth can be divided into four distinct stages according to the surface texture characteristics of the diseased cucumber leaves. The three-dimensional (3D) surface structures of powdery mildew layers on cucumber leaves had individual characteristics at different mildew growth stages, among which powdery mildew was more easily spread in the last growth stage, and powdery mildew height was greatest in the NO. 2 growth stage (S a = 425.35 ∼m). Surface free energy values, static contact angle, and contact angle hysteresis all correlated strongly with the surface characteristics of powdery mildew layers at different growth stages. When the concentration of surfactant reached the critical micelle concentration, the wetting state of AEO-5 solution droplets on the surface of cucumber powdery mildew leaves reached the Wenzel state more easily. The wettability of a droplet on the leaf surface depends on the state of the monomer and micelle in the surfactant solution and the surface characteristics of the powdery mildew-covered leaf.CONCLUSION: The 3D structure and relative dielectric constant of powdery mildew-covered leaves influenced surface texture characteristics, which in turn controlled the wetting and matching ability of surfactant droplets on diseased leaves. This work provides valuable new insights into the matching of the structure of powdery mildew-covered plant leaves with the properties of surfactant solutions.

The poor tolerance of ionic perovskite light-absorption layers to water vapor, thermal stress, and bias potential poses remarkable challenges for the selection of other essential elements of solar cells, which should be capable of inhibiting the degradation of perovskite while maintaining their own electronic functions, in particular, under the long-term thermal stress at 85 °C. We herein report a molecular semiconductor of bis­(9-methyl-9H-carbazol-3-yl)­amine-functionalized thia­[5]­helicene, which not only presents a glass temperature (Τ g) of 248 °C but also has a kinetic solubility of more than 350 mg mL–1 in a green solvent. Its doped composite with a conductivity of 27.5 μS cm–1 still holds a Τ g of 177 °C, enabling the fabrication of 21% efficiency, 85 °C stable perovskite solar cells for 1000 h. The cells also display an operation stability under continuous full sunlight at 60 °C.
