Objective: To present a theoretical reflection about the origin and the assumptions of the "Interpretive Description" method, and to discuss its applicability in Nursing and Health research. Method: Theoretical-reflective study, based on articles and books published by proponent of this approach, as well as scientific articles in which the authors reported having used this method in their studies. Results: It was evidenced that the "Interpretive Description" arose from the need to generate a better understanding of clinical practices in Nursing. This approach has its roots in the methodological traditions of the Social Sciences, although it differs from them in terms of its excessive rigidity and essentially theoretical objectives. The proposed method has been applied in several studies either in Nursing as other areas of Health. Conclusion: The "Interpretive Description" is considered a feasible approach for the production of knowledge in Applied Sciences such as Nursing.
Background & Aim: There is a high incidence of work-related musculoskeletal injuries in health professionals, namely nurses and nursing assistants, especially associated with the handling and transfer of dependent patients. The present study intends to evaluate the risks of injuries of the health professionals through the observation of the handling of dependent patients.
Materials & Methods: A descriptive and correlational study was performed using the observation of the care provided by nurses and nursing assistants. This study was developed in a hospital of the City of Gondomar-Portugal, data collection was carried out between January and March 2018. 149 Professionals were selected by convenience. The data collected were analysed using IBM SPSS® Statistics version 24.0.
Results: The sample consisted of 149 participants, mostly female. Concerning the assessment of the burden associated with the handling of dependent patients, it was considered excessive by 74.5% of the professionals. Regarding the application of the Graça Risk Assessment Scale (2008), only 7% of the activities were considered low risk. Risk behaviours associated with inadequate space during the procedure, equipment not properly positioned, almost non-use of mobility aids, and failure to use the patient's collaboration to reduce the effort associated with the procedure were observed.
Conclusion: The knowledge obtained through this study will allow the implementation of strategies to reduce the likelihood of pain and musculoskeletal injury related to work.
Background: Understanding the theoretical bases of nursing requires first an approximation about some foundational aspects, namely concepts, theories and theoretical model. From the applicability of the founding elements, we can see, know and understand factors that influence the processes needed for the right decision-making, the opposite of practical situations.
Objective:To know the tendencies of the publications about nursing theories, theoretical models and related concepts in a scientific journal of nursing.
Methods and Findings:An integrative review was performed on the website of the journal Acta Paulista de Enfermagem, via ScieLO, from 2005 to 2014. The sample included 21 studies that addressed the application, analysis, construction, validation or reflection on concepts, theoretical models and nursing theories. Of the publications, 42.8% came from the Northeast region and 76.2% contemplated the qualitative approach. The studies worked with theories (76.2%), with analysis, construction and validation of theoretical models (14.3%), and concept elaboration (9.5%). 2005 and 2011 represented the years with the largest publications, however a decrease has occurred in the last three years.
Conclusion:The trends highlighted the importance of the development and application of the theoretical and philosophical bases of nursing, since it is necessary to strengthen the link between theoretical and practical research.
Purpose: This study aimed to investigate the use of active methodologies in child health and adolescents education in undergraduate Nursing.
Methods:This was a qualitative, documentary study, based on secondary sources, from reflections of Higher Education Methodology discipline of the Academic Master in Nursing of Universidade Regional do Cariri. The evaluation took place in two stages: first, we applied a structured form for didactic and pedagogical verification built by the master teachers; later, we evaluated the schedule according to Bloom's taxonomy in the cognitive domain.
Results:It was noticed that the menu, order and student's evaluation were supported by a teaching plan according to the traditional model.
Conclusion:It was suggested that active methodologies were used to stimulate critical and reflective thinking of students.
scite is a Brooklyn-based organization that helps researchers better discover and understand research articles through Smart Citations–citations that display the context of the citation and describe whether the article provides supporting or contrasting evidence. scite is used by students and researchers from around the world and is funded in part by the National Science Foundation and the National Institute on Drug Abuse of the National Institutes of Health.
