A number of hydroxyamidines
and amidoximes have been prepared in order to examine if their chelating system
can lead to cytotoxic compounds. Most compounds are toxic but all are inactive
against experimental tumours. The i.r., u.v. and N.M.R. spectra of the
hydroxyamidines are discussed.
Eucalyptus Jicifolia F. Muell., restricted to the southeast area of Western Australia, has been introduced into New Zealand under the name of scarlet flowering gum. The essential oil, obtained in 0.18% yield, has been shown by preparative gas-liquid chromatography (g.1.c.) to contain a-and P-pinene, limonene, y-terpinene, p-cymene, and possibly a-thujene and A3-or A4-carene.
