As drogas antineoplásicas podem desencadear agravos à saúde ocupacional nos profissionais atuantes na área hospitalar. A exposição contínua a essas drogas pode causar desde efeitos simples, como cefaleia, vômitos, vertigens, tonturas, queda de cabelo e hiperpigmentação cutânea, até os mais complexos e indesejáveis, tais como: carcinogênese, efeitos mutagênicos e teratogênicos. Esses efeitos podem ser observados em trabalhadores que, sem proteção coletiva ou individual, preparam ou são encarregados de administrar os antineoplásicos nos pacientes, o que implica em absorção considerável dessas substâncias nos profissionais da saúde. O presente estudo teve como objetivo avaliar o conhecimento da equipe de enfermagem sobre os riscos ocupacionais durante a administração de quimioterápicos. Trata-se de estudo quantitativo com delineamento transversal, tendo sido utilizado um questionário com perguntas objetivas. A amostra foi composta por 27 profissionais que integram a equipe de enfermagem da Clínica Médica de um Hospital Público de Brasília (DF), no período de Agosto a Setembro de 2009. Observou-se que os profissionais de enfermagem entrevistados possuem conhecimentos apenas parciais sobre os riscos a que estão expostos durante a administração e descarte de quimioterápicos. Faz-se necessário o investimento na educação permanente de tais profissionais, bem como medidas mais específicas para a mensuração e verificação dos danos ocupacionais.
