Juss) as natural barrier to attack by Hypsipyla grandella (Zeller) (Lepidoptera: Pyralidae) on the Brazilian mahogany (Swietenia macrophylla King) aBSTRacTThe efficiency of Azadirachta indica as natural barrier against the attack by Hypsipyla grandella on mahogany in different arrangements and planting densities was evaluated. The study was carried out in degraded pasture in Vigia, Pará. The experimental design was a randomized block in split plot in time with five replications, the forms of cultivation of mahogany as plots and the evaluation periods (months) as the subplots. The natural barrier formed by neem did not prevent the attack of H. grandella on mahogany, but delayed and minimized the attack in mixed plantings. It is recommended that mahogany should not be planted simultaneously with the neem, but a year after planting the neem, when it has more than three meters in height, forming a natural barrier more effective to pest attack.
A fenofase espata fechada é altamente sincrônica. Phenological Pattern of Attalea maripa (Aubl.) Mart. in Pastures Areas of the Eastern Amazon ABSTRACTThe research evaluated the Attale amaripa (inajá) phenology relating the phenological events with rainfall. Data were obtained from 100 adult palms from natural regeneration in 3.25 acres of pasture in Bonito-PA, from August 2009 to December 2011. Data were analyzed using phenograms, synchrony index and factor analysis. The research showed that the phenological pattern of inajá is not seasonal. Flowering and fruiting occur throughout the year and are long-lasting events and suffer fluctuations throughout the year. The closed spathe phenology is highly synchronous. The fruiting is a slightly synchronous phenological event. Rainfall is a major climatic factor for phenology inajá because negatively affects production of open spathe with flowers and leaves fall and positively mature fruit drop.
ABSTRACTAttalea maripa (Aubl.) Mart. (inajá) is oleaginous specie found in tropical rain forest, with great potential to be used as a source of raw material for biofuel. Despite its importance, its natural populations are being phased out during cleaning of pastures and planting crops. Thus, the research aimed to evaluate the morphological and biometric characteristics of matrices, bunches, fruits, seeds and seedlings of inajá in silvopastoral system in Nova Timboteua and Bonito, Pará State. Five matrices, five bunches and 500 fruits were selected per provenance for morphometric analysis. For the morphological description of the fruit and pyrene were used 100 fruits. To study the morphology of seedlings were sowed 100 pyrenes. Data were analyzed using descriptive statistics, t test, correlation analysis and discriminant analysis. The inajá is a palm-sized erect with simple cylindrical stem without tillers. The mesocarp and endocarp are the parts that most contribute to the weight of the fruit. There is variation in the size, weight, in the form of fruit and pyrenes. There are three classes of fruits morphotypes: small, medium and large. The seedling inajá is established with the expansion of third cotyledonary hen and formation of the first leaf.
