RESUMO: Com o objetivo de promover a valorização dos estudos sobre solos da região sul de Minas Gerais, foi proposto o projeto de extensão na Universidade Federal de Itajubá, intitulado "Sustenta Solo Unifei". No projeto foram desenvolvidos materiais didáticos, como experimentos e jogos, com uso de materiais simples e/ou recicláveis, sobre os diferentes tipos de solos encontrados na região. Como ferramentas didáticas elaborou-se ensaios que demonstravam a importância da cobertura vegetal e o efeito da inclinação dos taludes na erosão e contaminação do solo. E também foi criado um jogo de cartas para mostrar formas simples de identificação dos diferentes tipos de solo. Após o desenvolvimento dessas ferramentas, foram realizadas apresentações para alunos do ensino médio e fundamental de escolas públicas e privadas da região. Nas apresentações buscou-se associar as teorias sobre o comportamento destes materiais com os problemas ambientais, que ocorrem devido a falta de planejamento e cuidados com o solo. Como também, usou-se nos experimentos amostras de solos coletadas em áreas degradas a fim de aproximar as simulações de situações reais. Tendo atingido mais de 300 alunos, acredita-se ter contribuído com a conscinetização da comunidade e com a minimização de ações que provocam eventos extremos prejudicais ao meio ambiente.
