This paper sought to determine the impact of the cohesion mechanisms, connectors and punctuation marks, through the use of the Cornell Method in the writing of autobiographical essays. This research adopted a correlational field study with a transversal design. The sample were 35 students from English Level V. The instruments were an initial and a final test and the results were compared in order to evidence the students' writing skill improvement. The Wald score for the tested model indicated that the cohesion mechanisms contributed significantly to the prediction of the final grade in the writing of autobiographical essays. The logistic regression was applied to meet the real effect of each one of the factors in the dependent variable. This statistic method proved that students who used connectors and punctuation marks properly had a greater probability to obtain higher grades than the median in the final writing evaluation. The real predictive effect of this variable on the dependent variable was 94.3%.
