Anklaje es un grupo de música popular formado en la ciudad de Castro en la Isla Grande de Chiloé, en el sur de Chile, cuyo trabajo creativo se caracteriza por la utilización de elementos musicales y discursivos vinculados al pueblo mapuche williche. En el presente artículo discutimos la forma en que Anklaje representa la espiritualidad mapuche en su música, analizando las interacciones entre territorio, identidad y espiritualidad que llevan a la articulación de un proceso creativo particular. De esta forma, examinamos los discursos de los miembros de la banda, quienes caracterizan dos formas de concebir las prácticas musicales: una que vincula la música con la expresión de lo racional, y otra, con la experiencia espiritual. Los resultados nos muestran cómo un constructo de territorio modela una visión de espiritualidad, encausando una práctica representacional que apela a la mediación entre lo cotidiano y lo sagrado.
En el presente artículo sugiero, basado en mi trabajo etnográfico y en la discusión bibliográfica, que, debido al énfasis en dos ceremonias masivas (ngillatun y machitun), los estudios sobre música mapuche han prestado poca atención al rol de la música en las prácticas “ritualizadas” cotidianas, lo que reduce la reflexión sobre la acción musical en contexto ritual solo a ciertos eventos ceremoniales colectivos. Por el contrario, considero que observar el despliegue de la música en diversas situaciones rituales puede contribuir a la comprensión de las finalidades y agencia que los sonidos y la música poseen en el mundo mapuche. Para este propósito, propongo un modo de abordar la práctica ritual mapuche -que identifica prácticas ritualizadas y eventos rituales colectivos- y considero la acción musical colectiva como una estrategia de ritualización que se enmarca en una dramatización general de los procedimientos rituales utilizados cotidianamente.
Cuerdas frotadas, leitmotiv, sonidos electrónicos, trip-hop, ayekan, mapuzugun. Estos y otros elementos son desplegados a lo largo del álbum Inatugen BSO, tercer disco del compositor, violinista y productor champurria Francisco Moreira Herrera, más conocido como Vñvm. Esta obra corresponde a la banda sonora original del documental Bajo Sospecha: Zokunentu (2022), del director y guionista Daniel Díaz3. La película es un recorrido personal del director narrado completamente en mapuzugun. A través de la historia familiar de su abuelo, abuela, su tío (el artista Bernando Oyarzún) y la suya propia, Díaz nos entrega una reflexión que relaciona la diáspora mapuche con las complejidades de las experiencias warriache (gente de la ciudad), champurria (concepto que refiere a lo mezclado) y el racismo sistémico chileno. De igual manera, los tránsitos, hibridaciones y experimentaciones musicales que Vñvm y sus colaboradores y colaboradoras desarrollan en Inatugen participan conscientemente de estos debates. Y lo hacen con un discurso sonoro que mezcla de un modo orgánico los sonidos de violines y violas con música electrónica, urbana y mapuche. Probablemente, por esto el disco fue recientemente galardonado con el premio a Mejor Música Nacional de Largometrajes Chilenos en FICVIÑA 2022, gracias a la deliberación de la Sociedad Chilena de Autores e Intérpretes Musicales (SCD).

A partir de un ejercicio de “equivocidad controlada” (Viveiros de Castro 2004; 2010, 71-74), en este artículo reflexiono sobre el lugar del concepto de música en la acustemología mapuche. El texto está estructurado en tres secciones: en la primera discuto las propuestas conceptuales sobre música mapuche elaboradas por autores y autoras durante las últimas décadas; en la segunda, reviso algunas categorías clave de la lengua mapuche relacionadas con el sonido; por último, comento el trabajo de las autoras que abiertamente resisten el concepto de música y propongo algunas ideas sobre la posición de la etnomusicología en esta discusión. La examinación de las aproximaciones desarrolladas en torno a este debate me lleva a concluir que la resistencia mapuche al concepto de música es otra expresión de un proyecto descolonizador que invita a pensar desde los desajustes en lugar de intentar llenar aparentes carencias conceptuales. Propongo que puede resultar más provechoso reflexionar sobre la acustemología mapuche situando a la categoría música en un lugar periférico. Posicionarla en el centro ha producido en parte una etnomusicología normativa. El camino que sugiero es el opuesto: una etnomusicología no taxonómica que desplace el concepto de música al banquillo.
