Abstract -Mandibular ossifying fibroma associated with impacted canine.A 25-year-old woman consulted for a bone swelling on her left mandible. History revealed that the mass increases progressively without any pain. Intraoral examination found, besides the bone swelling, dental anomalies particularly the persistence of 73 on the arch and the absence of 33. Radiographically, the lesion was well defined, non-homogeneous with central radioopaque focus. The 33 was impacted and juxtaposed to the lesion. The patient was treated with surgical excision of the lesion, curettage of the bone and extraction of the 33. A histopathological diagnosis of ossifying fibroma was made. The association of ossifying fibroma with impacted tooth is exceptional.
Key words: peripheral cemento-ossifying fibroma / calcified fibrous epulide / gingival lesion / calcificationsAbstract -Peripheral cemento-ossifying fibroma at posterior maxilla location. The peripheral cemento-ossifying fibroma (PCOF) is a non-neoplasic reactive enlargement of the gingiva characterized by the formation of mineralized product in a fibroblastic stroma. The large number of names used for PCOF indicates that there is much controversy surrounding the classification of this lesion. Although the etiology of PCOF remains unknown, it is thought to arise from periodontal ligament. It predominantly affects females at the 2nd and 3rd decade and occurs often in the anterior area. The recurrence rate of the PCOF is considered high for reactive lesions. The present report describes a case of PCOF in a 60 year-old female, localized in the posterior maxilla. Clinical and histological aspects, in addition to differential diagnosis and treatment are discussed.
We report an atypical presentation of a common disease to highlight the importance of making a correct diagnosis of scabies surrepticius in front of any itchy dermatosis especially in elderly patients. The misdiagnosis of this disease results in extensive infestation, especially with the use of corticosteroids.
Oral lichen planus is a common manifestation in patients with lichen
planus (LP). It can affect all regions of the oral mucosa. However, lip
involvement is rarely described, especially in patients with actinic LP.
We report a case of actinic LP associated with a pigmentation of the
lower lip.
