Doenças endêmicas, comuns em países tropicais e subtropicais, como a dengue, febre amarela, Zika e a de Chikugunya são diariamente noticiadas nos meios de comunicação. O portal do Ministério da Saúde alertou sobre o aumento de 264,1% dos casos de dengue no país, que passaram de 62,9 mil nas primeiras 11 semanas de 2018 para 229.064 no mesmo período de 2019, até 16 de março de 2019. Em relação aos números de casos de Zika e Chikungunya, no mesmo período, foram registrados 2.062 e 12.942, respectivamente. O projeto apresenta uma análise do uso de radiação como forma de esterilização dos mosquitos Aedes aegypti machos. Realizou-se um planejamento de experimento para observar o crescimento da população dos mosquitos e coletar os dados. Um modelo de regressão Binomial foi utilizado para verificar a diferença em dois níveis de radiação na esterilização dos machos, sendo que na dose de 30 Gy houve diminuição de aproximadamente 50% no número médio de nascimentos, quando comparado com 25 Gy. Verificou-se que os machos irradiados têm chances de competir, pela cópula das fêmeas, com machos naturais. Entretanto, observou-se que numa população de machos esterilizados, no mínimo, seis vezes maior que a de machos naturais, há uma redução significativa no número de nascimentos de larvas.
