Shadow IT coexists with mandated information systems. Developed and applied by nonIT domain experts, it is as a rule, but not exclusively, used for resolving nonroutine issues, for which mandated IS does not have appropriate functions. Shadow IT solutions are not supported or controlled by IT departments. The aim of the paper is to show to which extent shadow IT has been researched, as this area has not yet received the necessary attention from both academia and business. A systematic literature review was conducted in order to find the papers covering the topic of shadow IT. The following electronic databases were searched: Web of Science (Thomson Reuters), Scopus (Elsevier), and AIS Electronic Library (The Association for Information Systems (AIS)). More than half of the analysed papers are case studies in one or more organizations. The papers were published mostly in scientific conferences and in scientific journals. Based on the literature review, the reasons for shadow IT occurrence, the possibility of its management, as well as its advantages and disadvantages are presented. The most important conclusions and views regarding shadow IT, according to the authors’ opinion, are indicated at the end. The limitation of a systematic literature review is that only papers published in English are analysed. Besides identifying papers covering the shadow IT topics, the reasons for the emergence of shadow IT, the possibilities of its management and its advantages and disadvantages are systematized.
There have been a significant number of publications about digital workplace transformation. This is due to technological developments in the last decades as well as the COVID-19 pandemic. However, there is no adequate overall definition of the term. This leads to misunderstandings and confused interpretation of the digital workplace, sometimes even narrowing it down to a set of tools or a platform. Given the complexity of digital workplace transformation, there is a need to have an integrated prospective and analyze it not just from a technological perspective, but from an organizational and processes point of view as well. Therefore, this paper is an attempt to review the concept and offer a comprehensive definition of the digital workplace. This includes all the important aspects of the transformation including tools and platforms as well as personal issues, organization, processes and management. The paper provides a systematic literature review of the publications in leading bibliographic and citation bases, starting from Web of Science and Scopus to SpringerLink, IEEE Xplore and Association for Information Systems eLibrary. The review includes not only journal papers, but also leading proceedings, books and other referent publications. It addresses the authors' approaches, perspectives, terminologies, focusses and understanding of workplace transformation over the last decade by a comprehensive review of the state of art of the literature in the field of digital workplace. Finally, a set of recommendations are made to further research in increasingly important subject of digital workplace transformation.
Knowledge management is becoming an increasingly important business resource not only in the development and innovation process, but also in securing an organization's competitiveness and survival in the environment. In view of the fact that there is no full consent as regards adopting a universal definition, knowledge management can be regarded as a concept encompassing methods of simplifying, enhancing, sharing, distributing and creating knowledge within an organization. The dominant approach of contemporary business operations is based on business intelligence, which, including Data Warehouse as its integral part, represents a highly significant component in knowledge management. As the application of information technologies provides the key support in conducting all business activities, from operative to highly complex ones, this article considers the significance and functional application of Data Warehouses in the knowledge management system.
