Abstract-Community networks deployment is one of several worldwide efforts to reduce the digital divide. Most of these networks rely entirely on IEEE 802.11 (WiFi). In this work, the authors describe the application of an communitary cellular telephone network (2G-GSM) operating on licensed spectrum and capable of using regular cellphones to provide social and digital inclusion in a community in the Amazon forest. The contribution is a functional network, based on open source technologies, which is used to foster research on the impact on the community.
This article presents an energy consumption analysis of two differentemulation scenarios of a GSM (Global System for Mobile)network; one with a traditional computer and another with RaspberryPi 3. The network is created by open-source software thatemulates the main modules of a GSM network, this emulation combinedwith a radio generator equipment enables calls and messageexchange between network users. The CELCOM project designsand implements community networks in digitally isolated regions, the scenarios presented in this article can be applied in works ofCELCOM project. The power distribution service of this GSM network,in isolated regions, does not have the required stability tomaintain the quality in community networks, creating a demand foran alternative power system. Different scenarios are proposed andanalyzed in this work, trying to get a lower energy consumption
