Aflatoxin is among the natural toxins that cause serious side effects on living things. Diosmin is also one of the compounds with broad pharmacological effects. In this study, the effects on the oxidant/antioxidant system of 50 mg/kg body weight/day dose of diosmin, aflatoxin (500 μg/kg body weight/day), and combined aflatoxin (500 μg/kg body weight/day) plus diosmin (50 mg/kg body weight/day) given to the stomach via catheter female adult Wistar Albino rats is examined. Forty rats were used in the experiment, and these animals were randomly allocated to four equal groups. The test phase lasted 21 days, and blood samples and tissue (liver and kidney) samples were taken after this period was over. Some biochemical parameters (glucose, triglyceride, cholesterol, blood urea nitrogen, creatinine, uric acid, lactate dehydrogenase, aspartate aminotransferase, alanine aminotransferase, alkaline phosphatase, total protein, albumin) and levels of malondialdehyde, nitric oxide, and 4-hydroxynonenal and activities of superoxide dismutase, catalase, and glutathione peroxidase were analyzed in the samples. The aflatoxin administered over the period indicated a significant increase in levels of malondialdehyde (MDA), nitric oxide (NO), and 4-hydroxynonenal (4-HNE) in all tissues and blood samples. Therewithal, the activity of antioxidant enzymes showed a change in the decreasing direction. Biochemical parameters of the group in which aflatoxin were administered alone changed unfavorably. Parallel effects were also observed in the histopathological findings of this group. The results showed that aflatoxin changed antioxidant/oxidant balance in favor of oxidant and eventually led to lipid peroxidation. Diosmin administration to aflatoxin-treated animals resulted in positive changes in antioxidant enzyme activities while the levels of MDA, NO, and 4-HNE were reduced in all tissues and blood samples examined. Diosmin alleviates the oxidative stress caused by aflatoxin. Similar improvement was observed in biochemical parameters of this group as well as in liver and kidney histopathology. No significant change was observed in the group treated with diosmin alone in terms of the parameters examined and histologic findings. As a result, diosmin may be included in compounds that can be used as a therapeutic and prophylactic agent in the event of the formation of aflatoxin exposure and poisoning in animals.

Here, we report a case of neonatal calf meningitis due to Streptococcus gallolyticus subsp. gallolyticus (SGG). Clinical, pathological and microbiological findings were evaluated. API Strep, 16S rRNA gene sequencing, rpoB gene sequencing and sodA gene sequencing were used for the complete identification of SGG. This is the first documented report of neonatal calf meningitis due to SGG in veterinary medicine.

ÖZVakalar kliniğe iştahsızlık, halsizlik, enjeksiyon bölgelerinden başlayan ve vücudun diğer kısımlarına yayılan tüy dökülmesi şikayetiyle getirilen toplam beş adet, bir yaşlı, koyunda değerlendirildi. Alınan anamnezde sürüye babesiozis tedavisi için ticari imozan isimli preparatın 1.2 ml (imidocarb dipropionate 120 mg/ml) dozunda koyunların arka bacağına kas içi enjekte ettikleri belirlendi. Enjekte edilen dozun normalden 2.5-3 katı oranında daha fazla olduğu ve enjeksiyonların usulüne uygun yapılmadığı anlaşılmıştır. Yapılan frotilerde babesiozise rastlanmaması nedeniyle; CK-MB, LDH ve cTnI düzeylerindeki yükselmenin imidokarb zehirlenmesine bağlı kardiyak toksisiteden kaynaklandığı, yine enjeksiyon bölgesinden başlayan ve vücudun diğer kısımlarına yayılan tüy dökülmesi, hiperemi, ödem, ısı artışı ve konjesyonun imidokarb toksikasyonuna ve hijyenik tedbirlerin uygulanmamasına bağlı lokal değişiklikler olduğu kanaatine varıldı.Anahtar Kelimeler: İmidokarb, Koyun, Toksikasyon, Troponin Determining myocardial damage in the light of biomarkers in a sheep flock as a result of imidocarb application: 5 cases ABSTRACTThis study was conducted at our clinics on five sheep aged one years old that had anorexia, weakness and allopecia on injection sides later on this alopecia had spread to the other parts of body. According to anamnesis, animal owner injected 1.2 ml imozan (containing 120 mg/ml imidocarb dipropionate) onto hind limb muscles intra muscularly. The injection dose were 2.5 to 3 times higher than normal dose and injections were not also made duly. Blood smears did not also revealed babesiosis. Therefore, biochemical analysis results obtained for CK-MB, LDH and cTnI could be due to imidocarb related cardiac toxication. Furthermore, it was reached to conclusion that, alopecia, hyperaemia, oedema, heat increase and congestion seen on the injection site at the beginning and then spread to whole body could be due to imidocarb toxication and might be due to local changes as a result of not taken hygienic precautions.
