A pesquisa procurou discutir os impactos que os alimentos transgênicos trazem à população em decorrência dos seus efeitos positivos e negativos, além de fazer um estudo da oferta desses alimentos entre as escalas global e local, com ênfase em Batalha-Alagoas. Bartolomé (2001) discorre sobre o desenvolvimento de alergias causadas pelo consumo desses produtos. A numerosa utilização de vírus e bactérias, com alto potencial recombinatório, pode criar novas cepas patogênicas e novas enfermidades. Esta pesquisa tem caráter de prospecção bibliográfica, associada à realização de uma etapa de campo que se deu nos mercados da cidade. Associando essas fontes, realizou-se a produção de mapas e tabelas para a análise dos resultados. Notou-se que a oferta e o consumo de alimentos geneticamente modificados em escala mundo é enorme, assim como, em proporcionalidade, ocorre na escala local, fazendo com que as pessoas consumam mais alimentos geneticamente modificados do que alimentos orgânicos, devido à sua praticidade e seu custo.
RESUMO: O presente trabalho procurou analisar a segregação socioespacial que ocorre na cidade de Batalha, em Alagoas, comparando os bairros Avenida Governador Muniz Falcão e o Bairro Alto São Jorge. Foram verificados os arranjos espaciais e o perfil socioeconômico de seus moradores como marcadores da paisagem urbana, além de identificar os agentes que atuam modelando esses espaços e gerando formas e funções específicas na cena da urbe. Metodologicamente, a pesquisa foi realizada por meio de levantamento de literatura, dados primários oriundos de questionários e entrevistas semiestruturadas. Constatou-se que, mesmo sendo um fenômeno na escala da cidade pequena, os processos decorrentes do modo de produção capitalista nas cidades do ocidente reproduzem as mesmas lógicas de desigualdade e produção dialética das diferenças, intensificando as lutas e a segregação no cotidiano da cidade.
