Introdução Entre os desafios teóricos e metodológicos enfrentados pelos pesquisadores que trabalham com grupos minoritários no Brasil, o principal é compreender seus modos de vida, seus conflitos e transformar o conhecimento acadêmico a respeito deles em ferramenta que os auxilie em suas lutas. Muitos desses grupos foram forjados durante a "[...] história colonial, marginalizados e esquecidos na construção da nação e ressurgidos no contexto multiculturalista do final do século 20" (MONTEIRO, 2006, p. 20). Tais grupos, como os quilombolas, organizam suas lutas contra injustiças históricas e por direitos socioterritoriais, os quais assumem um caráter "pantanoso", marcado por "ambiguidades e contradições", que sempre caracterizaram as condições de existência dessas populações (MONTEIRO, 2006, p. 19). Diante da situação histórica de subcidadania, os movimentos quilombolas de Salvaterra (ilha do Marajó, Pará) articulam-se em rede, interna e externamente, para assegurarem direitos socioterritoriais. Compreender os meandros desse conjunto de relações é importante para este trabalho.
