Tempat Pengolahan Akhir (TPA) Sampah Telaga Punggur adalah TPA yang berlokasi di Kota Batam dengan luas lahan 47 Ha, lokasinya berbatasan langsung dengan perairan pesisir. Setiap harinya 700-800 ton volume sampah diterima TPA dan dihasilkan 25-30 ton air lindi. Aktivitas di TPA Telaga Punggur tersebut (bersama dengan aktivitas-aktivitas lain di daerah Punggur) menimbulkan dampak terhadap penurunan kualitas lingkungan di perairan pesisir sekitarnya. Tujuan penelitian ini adalah mengevaluasi kualitas lingkungan perairan pesisir sekitar TPA Punggur dilihat dari struktur komunitas makrozoobenthos. Penelitian ini dilaksanakan pada bulan April – Mei 2013. Dalam penelitian ini ditetapkan 2 stasiun sampling yang masing-masing terdiri dari 4 plot sampling. Stasiun I di perairan yang berbatasan langsung dengan TPA Telaga Punggur dan Stasiun II berjarak 1 km dari Stasiun I. Untuk melihat perbedaan antara Stasiun I dan Stasiun II digunakan Uji T dan Uji Man-Whitney. Dari hasil penelitian didapatkan data bahwa ada 11 jenis makrozoobenthos di Stasiun I dan 18 jenis makrozoobenthos di Stasiun II. Secara umum Stasiun I didominasi oleh Kelas Olygochaeta yang bersidat toleran, sedangkan Stasiun II didominasi oleh Kelas Gastropoda yang bersifat fakultatif. Indeks keanekaragaman antara Stasiun I dan II nilainya tidak jauh berbeda, dimana nilai indeks berkategori sedang, yang artinya kondisi perairan tercemar ringan. Berdasarkan analisis Kurva ABC didapatkan bahwa kondisi perairan di Stasiun I dan Stasiun II tidak terganggu. Secara umum kualitas air di Stasiun I dan II tidak jauh berbeda, dimana parameter pH, salinitas, TSS, dan suhu masing sesuai dengan baku mutu untuk biota laut pada ekosistem mangrove, namun kandungan DO rendah. Nilai DO yang rendah menunjukan banyaknya bahan organik pada masing-masing stasiun.
Mikroorganisme Lokal (MOL) adalah mikroorganisme yang terbuat dari bahan-bahan alami sebagai media berkembangnya mikroorganisme yang berguna untuk mempercepat dekomposisi bahan organik. Sawi caisim (Brassica juncea L.) adalah salah satu sayuran yang digemari oleh masyarakat dan mengandung nilai gizi yang tinggi. Penelitian ini bertujuan untuk mengetahui pengaruh MOL nasi basi terhadap pertumbuhan Sawi caisim pada sistem hidroponik. Penelitian dilakukan secara Rancangan Acak Lengkap, dengan 4 perlakuan, yaitu: kontrol (konsentrasi 0%), Perlakuan A (konsentrasi 7.5%), Perlakuan B (konsentrasi 10%), dan Perlakuan C (konsentrasi 12.5%). Masing-masing perlakuan dilakukan 10 kali ulangan. Analisis data dilakukan dengan Analisis Varian yang dilanjutkan dengan Uji Beda Nyata Terkecil. Hasil analisis menunjukkan bahwa terdapat perbedaan pengaruh yang nyata dari pemberian MOL nasi basi terhadap variabel pertumbuhan tanaman yang diteliti, yaitu variabel tinggi tanaman sawi caisim (F hitung = 55.69 > F tabel (0.05) = 2.87), variabel jumlah daun (F hitung = 22.97 > F tabel (0.05) = 2.87), dan variabel panjang daun (F hitung = 33.44 > F tabel (0.05) = 2.87). Perlakuan paling baik untuk pertumbuhan tinggi tanaman dan panjang daun adalah Perlakuan A (konsentrasi 7.5%); sedangkan perlakuan paling baik untuk pertumbuhan jumlah daun adalah Perlakuan A (konsentrasi 7.5%) dan Perlakuan B (konsentrasi 10%).
Limbah cair sampah yang disebut air lindi memiliki potensi sebagai pupuk organik cair yang dapat digunakan untuk pupuk tanaman. Tujuan penelitian untuk melihat efek pemberian air lindi terhadap pertumbuhan morfometrik tanaman Seledri (Apium graveolens L). Pengujian dilakukan dengan membandingkan dengan menggunaan pupuk cair komersial yang biasa oleh petani. Hasil pengujian yang diperoleh dengan derajat gain tinggi kebebasan 18 dan tingkat kepercayaan 95% atau α = 0,05. T tabel 1.734 dan T hitung adalah 0,92 (T hit 0,92 < T tab 1,73). Nilai T hitung < T tabel. Hipotesis H0 diterima , Hi ditolak, artinya pupuk organik cair lindi tidak memiliki efek yang sama dengan organik cair atau pupuk cair lindi tidak memberikan efek yang lebih baik.
Tempat Pengolahan Akhir (TPA) Sampah Telaga Punggur Kota Batam setiap harinya menerima 700-800 ton sampah dan dihasilkan 25-30 ton air lindi. Air limdi tersebut potensial untuk dijadikan pupuk organik cair. Untuk melihat pengaruh pupuk organik cair berbahan dasar air lindi dari TPA Telaga Punggur ini, dilakukan percobaan terhadap tanaman Seledri (Apium graveolens L). Penelitian ini bertujuan untuk: (1) mengetahui karaketeristik pupuk organik cair berbahan dasar air lindi, (2) membuktikan adanya pengaruh pemberian pupuk organik cair berbahan dasar air lindi terhadap pertumbuhan morfometrik tanaman Seledri (tinggi dan jumlah daun), (3) Mengetahui dosis optimum pupuk untuk pemupukan tanaman Seledri, dan (4) Mengetahui perbandingan tingkat pertumbuhan tanaman Seledri yang diberikan pupuk organik berbahan dasar air lindi dengan pupuk organik cair lain (dalam hal ini Pupuk NASA). Dari hasil penelitian didapatkan bahwa: (1) Kandungan Total NPK pada pupuk organik cair berbahan dasar lindi dari TPA Telaga Punggur adalah 511.37 mg/l; (2) Pemberian pupuk organik cair berbahan dasar lindi dari TPA Telaga Punggur berpengaruh signifikan dan erat terhadap pertumbuhan tanaman Seledri (dalam ini pertumbuhan tinggi tanaman dan pertambahan jumlah daun); (3) Berdasarkan dosis yang diujicobakan, dosis pupuk organik cair lindi 14 ml/L memberikan hasil pertumbuhan terbaik, walau demikian, dosis ini belum merupakan dosis optimal dan dapat dilakukan uji coba lebih lanjut dengan dosis yang lebih besar dari 14 ml/L; (4) Apabila dilihat dari variabel pertumbuhan tinggi tanaman, secara statistik pupuk organik cair lindi dan pupuk organik cair NASA memberikan hasil pertumbuhan yang sama; dan (5) Apabila dari dari variabel pertambahan jumlah daun, secara statistik pupuk organik cair lindi memberikan hasil pertumbuhan yang lebih baik dibandingkan pupuk organik cair NASA.
