Hujan lebat yang terjadi di Kabupaten Garut pada tanggal 20 September 2016 mengakibatkan banjir yang menyebabkan kerugian dalam berbagai aspek kehidupan manusia. Hal ini menjadi tujuan penelitian untuk menganalisis kejadian hujan lebat yang berdampak pada kejadian banjir di Kabupaten Garut dengan memanfaatkan data citra satelit.Penelitian ini memanfaatkan data interpretasi citra satelit Himawari-8 dengan metode infrared channel dan TRMM (Tropical Rainfall Measurement Mission). Pemanfaatan data citra satelit dapat menentukan gangguan cuaca yang terjadi dan estimasi intensitas curah hujan yang menyebabkan kejadian hujan lebat. Hasil penelitian menunjukan bahwa kejadian banjir di Kabupaten Garut disebabkan oleh hujan lebat akibat awan konvektif.
Abstrak. Banjir yang melanda sebagian wilayah di Jawa Tengah pada tanggal 18 Juni 2016 menyebabkan setidaknya 24 orang tewas, ribuan rumah rusak, dan sekitar 1.000 jiwa dievakuasi ke lokasi yang lebih aman. Bencana tersebut diakibatkan oleh hujan lebat, salah satu wilayah yang terdampak yaitu Kabupaten Banjarnegara. Fenomena tersebut dirasa perlu oleh peneliti untuk dilakukan penelitian. Penelitian ini menggunakan metode interpretasi data citra satelit dengan cara mengolah data infrared channel Himawari-8 dan dibandingkan dengan data curah hujan dari pos hujan di Kabupaten Banjarnegara tanggal 16 hingga 18 Juni 2016. Dari hasil analisis akan ditentukan gangguan cuaca yang menyebabkan kejadian hujan lebat pada tanggal 18 Juni 2016. Hujan berintensitas lebat yang terjadi di wilayah Jawa Tengah disebabkan oleh akumulasi beberapa proses fisis. Berdasarkan interpretasi data citra satelit, terlihat adanya kumpulan awan Cb (Cumulonimbus) aktif dengan suhu puncak awan mencapai -80.0° C . Adanya daerah belokan angin dan daerah pertemuan angin yang secara khusus diikuti dengan perlambatan angin. Keberadaan gangguan berupa daerah bertekanan rendah yang mempengaruhi sirkulasi udara di sekitar perairan barat daya Pulau Jawa juga mendukung terjadinya pembentukan awan-awan hujan.Kata kunci : Himawari-8, banjir, hujan lebat
