Es wurde die Spannungskorrosionsempfindlichkeit von nickelreichen Nickel‐Kupferlegierungen untersucht und festgestellt, daß sie nur in Cu2‐haltiger, nicht aber in reiner Flußsäure spannungskorrosionsempfindlich sind. Als Ursache wurde die Bildung von kathodischen Bereichen aus cu2O bzw. Cu, je nach Acidität des Agens, festgestellt. Diese sind für das Auftreten eines ausgeprägten elektrochemischen Prozesses innerhalb der Spalten und Risse notwendig, wodurch im Zusammenwirken mit den beiden Mischkristalleffekten Spannungskorrosion verursacht wird.
Für die empfindlichste Legierung mit rd. 70 Gew.‐% Nickel, Rest Kupfer, entsprechend etwa der Legierung „Monel”︁, wurde die Abhängigkeit der Lebensdauer von der cuF2‐ und HF‐Konzentration bestimmt und in einem räumlichen Diagramm dargestellt. Diese Legierung weist in verdünnten, CuF2‐haltigen HF‐Lösungen auch beträchtliche interkristalline Korrosion auf, während in höhen konzentrierten Lösungen unter Zugspannung nur transkristalline Risse auftreten.
Ferner wurde der zeitliche Verlauf, die Spannungs‐ und die Temperaturabhängigkeit des Spannungskorrosionsprozesses untersucht und die Aktivierungsenergie bestimmt.
Die Moglichkeit einer Lokalelementbildung bei der Korrosion homogener Mischkristalle, insbesondcre, weiin diese eine unangreifbare Edelmctallkoniponeiite enthalten, ist von G. Masing (1) erortert worden. Er kam zu dem SchluB, dai3 sich iiber ihre Wirkungen keine generellen Aussagen machen lassen und ihr Einflui3 nicht unbedingt ein ungunstiger sein musse. Die Grundprobleme der Spannungskorrosion sind einerseits die extreme Lokalisierung des Angriffs auf die Korngrenzen oder auch auf Bereiche innerhalb der Kristallite, andererseits die Wirkung der Zugspannung. Die Annahme, daß durch die Zugspannung die Lokalisierung des Angriffs verursacht werden würde, wurde nicht bestätigt. Es wird nachgewiesen, daß ein lokalisierter Angriff auf die Korngrenzen auch bei homogenen Mischkristallen schon ohne Vorhandensein von Zugspannungen erfolgt. Dies wird auf eine Erhöhung des Reaktionsvermögens der Großwinkel‐Korngrenzen als Folge der Mischkristallbildung zurückgeführt, die experimentell nachgewiesen wird. Dieser “Mischkristall‐Effekt” mit Maximum bei 50 At.‐% führt jedoch bei Einwirkung chemischer Agentien allein noch nicht zu interkristalliner bzw. Spannungskorrosion, sondern nur bei gleichzeitigem Auftreten eines elektrochemischen Prozesses. Es wird gezeigt, daß ein solcher unter gewissen Voraussetzungen auch bei homogenen Mischkristallen möglich ist. Bezüglich der Rolle der Zugspannungen wird gezeigt, daß ihre Wirkung lediglich darin besteht, plastische Verformungen hervorzurufen, denn unmittelbar während einer plastischen Verformung, d. h. “in statu deformandi”, wird das Reaktionsvermögen von Mischkristallen ganz beträchtlich erhöht, wofür ebenfalls experimentelle Beweise erbracht werden.
Messing wird durch geringen Zusatz eines Edelmetalls, z.B. Gold, gegenüber allen angreifenden, nicht komplex bindenden Agenzien spannungskorrosionsempfindlich während gewöhnliches Messing bekanntlich nur bei Einwirkung ammoniakhaltiger Agenzien spannungskorrodiert. Diese allgemeine Spannungskorrosionsempfindlichkeit wird dadurch verursacht, daß sich die kathodischen Bereiche aus Gold bilden können und der zur Auslösung von Spannungskorrosion nötige elektrochemische Prozeß nunmehr auch bei ammoniakfreien Agenzien zustande kommen kann.
Durch Verwendung goldhaltigen Messings und ammoniakfreier Agenzien konnten die Wirkungen der Mischkristalleffekte und des elektrochemischen Prozesses getrennt untersucht werden. Ferner wurden die Dauer der Inkubations‐ und Spannungskorrosionphase und bei einigen Legierungen auch die Aktivierungsenergie des Spannungskorrosionsprozesses in Abhängigkeit von der Mischkristallkonzentration bestimmt. Letztere wird bei hohen Mischkristallkonzentration im wesentlichen durch die Aktivierungsenergie der in fließenden Kristallbereichen befindlichen Atome bestimmt.
