Analysis of the oviposition behaviour of Encarsia formosa towards larvae and pupae of Trialeurodes waporariorun showed that the parasite selects the 3rd and 4th instar and the prepupae for oviposition. Host selection takes place by antennae and/or ovipositor. In the selected stages the percentage mortality of parasite eggs and larvae is lowest.Host-feeding occurs in all stages, although it is found relatively more frequently in the 2nd instar and in the pupae. Hosts used for feeding will never be parasitized and in parasitized hosts host-feeding was not observed.Part I: Host finding by the parasite. Ent. exp. appl. 1976 (in press).
Analysis of the oviposition behaviour of Encarsia formosa towards larvae of Trialeurodes vaporariorum showed that the parasite was able to discriminate unparasitized from parasitized hosts and avoids oviposition in the latter. Rejection of a parasitized host takes place after the wasp examined the hosts with her antennae and sometimes after examination with her ovipositor. After most hosts at a certain leaf part are parasitized the wasp leaves the site.
Zusammenfassung
Zur Parasit‐Wirt‐Beziehung zwischen Encarsia formosa (Hym.: Aphelinidae) und Trialeurodes vaporariorum (Homopt.: Aleyrodidae). III.
