The dwarf angelfish Centropyge aurantonotus, commonly known as the flameback angelfish, Pomacanthidae family, is the only species of the genus that occurs in Brazil (Lindner, 2014). Dwarf angelfishes are attractive to the aquarium market due to their beautiful colours and small body size (Baensch, 2017). C. aurantonotus is among the most commercialized angelfish species in Brazil (Ibama, 2008), and its exports exceeded 20,000 specimens from 2006 to 2015 (Gurjão & Lotufo, 2018).In the IUCN Red List of Threatened Species (Pyle et al., 2010), the flameback angelfish is listed as 'Least Concern'.
