Industry 4.0 describes a phenomenon which augments business models and also communication channels in commercial enterprises. This paper analyses scientific publications related to the business model changes driven by Industry 4.0, and also digital internal communication channels used to reduce risks in the process. The paper is based upon a systematic review of scientific publications and evaluation by experts. The research revealed a gap between internal communication through digital channels and the change process in Industry 4.0-driven business models. Each channel has its mission and contributes to reducing risk during the change process. Since there is no universal digital channel for internal communication, different digital communication channels are efficient at different stages of change. The paper makes recommendations for enterprises, related to the effectiveness of digital communication channels during the business model transformation. It further contributes to existing knowledge by expanding the change process model and aligning the change process with features of digital communication channels. The research focused on the manufacturing sector, exploring digital communication channels used to reduce risk during the change process, which is a limitation of this study, along with assumption of a basic level of digital competences in the enterprise.
Evaluation and selection of eco-innovation strategies is a significant and complex strategic decision, and despite the relevance and interest in the field of eco-innovation, the area of eco-innovation strategies has not been explored in depth in the scientific literature. Therefore, in this study, we propose an integrated approach to evaluating eco-innovation strategies from the perspective of strategic green transformation that helps decision-makers evaluate and select eco-innovation strategy aiming to achieve a competitive advantage. For this study, we adopted a validated multi-criteria decision-making methodology (MCDM) by combining Analytical Hierarchy Process (AHP) and The Technique for Order of Preference by Similarity to Ideal Solution (TOPSIS). The reliability of the proposed framework was tested and applied in the context of the Lithuanian furniture industry. This study offers three contributions and provides a comprehensive and profound insights into eco-innovation strategies. First, this study conceptualizes eco-innovation strategy from the perspective of strategic green transformation and proposed a novel definition and classification of eco-innovation strategies leading to competitive advantage. Second, this study proposes a novel approach to the evaluation of eco-innovation strategies taking into account micro-, meso-, and macro-level environmental factors. Third, the findings of this study provide implications for scholars and decision-makers in the field of eco-innovation strategy and set an agenda for future research.
Small and medium-sized enterprises (SMEs) are assumed to be one of the key contributors to the country’s economic growth and social welfare. Thus, their internationalisation appears to be inevitable considering how globalisation processes have changed the rules of competition in recent decades. Smart and digitalised technologies (Internet of Things and Services, etc.) decentralise communication and provide the opportunities for new firms to overcome the barriers of geographical location and access international markets through co-creation business models and changes of the value chains. The paper aims at analysing and disclosing how the fourth industrial revolution (Industry 4.0) influences SME internationalisation. The present study is grounded on the research of extant scientific literature and assessment of experts. The research demonstrates that Industry 4.0 positively influences the internationalisation of SMEs on a number of dimensions. The recommendations for managers and policymakers how to foster internationalisation of SMEs are suggested.
Industry 4.0 changes business models and in so doing presents new risks that need to be addressed. Research presented in this paper developed a risk assessment for business model digitisation (RADi) matrix which consists of technical, competences, employee and customer consent, data security, and financial risk. The expert evaluation uses the FARE method as a multi-criteria decision support approach. The results determine which parts of a business model driven by the Industry 4.0 are most affected by different risks. The results indicate the greatest impact is on customer channels, key resources, revenue stream, and customer segments, whilst key partners are the least impacted. Our research demonstrates that the RADi model can be used by firms to identify and plan for critical risks as well as to implement the digitisation of business models. Policymakers will find the RADi approach useful to anticipate risks and prioritise public support and regional development.
The global focus shifts towards sustainable development and makes all the industries to adapt and be active in order to reduce their negative impact on environmental and social environments. The main objective of this study is to provide a coherent overview of current research on sustainability in creative and cultural industries and to highlight possible research streams for future investigations. This is the first study to investigate the scientific publications on sustainability in creative and cultural industries. In total, 247 publications published between 2000 and 2021 and included in Web of Science (Clarivate) were taken into account. The results of this study reveal the following: (1) the increasing trend of publications in the field; (2) the most influential journals, researchers, countries, and articles review; (3) the gaps of extant research and future research directions. The presented study contributes to the scientific fields of business, economics, and communication and the insights are helpful to the researchers and policy-makers in the field of sustainability in creative and cultural industries.
