Gastric H+,K+-ATPase consists of alpha- and beta-subunits. The catalytic alpha-subunit contains a very unique structure consisting of lysine and glycine clusters, KKK(or KKKK)AG(G/R)GGGK-(K/R)K, in the amino-terminal cytoplasmic region. This structure is well conserved in all gastric H+,K+-ATPases from different animal species, and was postulated to be the site controlling the access of cations (or proton) to its binding site. In this report, we studied the role of this unique structure by expressing several H+,K+-ATPase mutants of the alpha-subunit together with the wild-type beta-subunit in HEK-293 cells. Even after replacing all the positively-charged amino acid residues (six lysines and one arginine) in the cluster with alanine or removing all the glycine residues in the cluster, the mutants preserved the H+,K+-ATPase activity, and showed similar affinity for ATP and K+ as well as similar pH profiles as those of wild-type H+,K+-ATPase, indicating that the cluster is not indispensable for H+,K+-ATPase activity and not directly involved in determination of the affinity for cation (proton).
A 81‐year‐ old Japanese man with a splenic inflammatory pseudotumor is described. The pseudotumor was un changed in size after one year of observation. Macro‐scopically, the lesion was a firm well‐circumscribed 5.5X 5×5cm mass showing a yellowish‐white cut surface. Histologically, it was composed of abundant mixed inflammatory infiltrates, predominantly UCHL‐1(+) T and L26(+) B lymphocytes, plasma cells containing various immunoglobulin subtypes, and S 100 protein(+), and lysozyme and NCA(+) histiocytes, with a sclerotic stroma. Small numbers of eosinophils, neutrophils and foamy macrophages were admixed. The patient has remained disease‐free for 14 months after splenectomy. Only ten splenic inflammatory pseudotumors have been reported in the literature. This paper adds an additional case, together with details of immunohistochemical polyclonality of each inflammatory cell population, confirming that this disease is a nonspecific inflammatory change. We measured invariant mass spectra of e + e~ pairs produced in 12-GeV p 4-A interaction to investigate in-medium mass modification of vector mesons. We observed the excess over the known hadronic sources below the 0) meson mass peak. The obtained p/0) ratio and velocity dependence of excess/0) ratio imply that this excess mainly results from p meson whose mass was modified in nuclear matter.
Many post-construction anchors can be used in construction and civil engineering field. Bonded and mechanical anchors are representatives of such anchors. The bonded anchor is embedded in base concrete with an adhesive such as the epoxy adhesive. However, the deviation of the compounding ratio of the adhesive is one of the major problems affecting the functioning of bonded anchors. To solve some of these problems, we developed a bonded anchor with the acrylic adhesive in the bridge structure. Properties of the acrylic adhesive for both of developed bonded anchors are described in the present.
