Introdução: O grupo populacional de agentes de segurança pública cearense conta com um efetivo de 21.900 membros, distribuídos entre a capital e o interior do estado. Estes homens e mulheres arriscam suas vidas todos os dias para manter a segurança dos bens privados e públicos, sob qualquer adversidade, destinando-se a exercer atividade intensiva e ostensiva. Como uma atividade que compõe o grupo de serviços essenciais à população, a necessidade de atuação policial ultrapassa calamidades, horários, pandemias, entre outras adversidades humanas. Objetivo: Percebendo inúmeros desafios do cotidiano deste grupo de profissionais, o presente artigo destina-se a compreender os fatores de risco da profissão do policial militar no campo de adoecimento tanto físico quanto mental. Metodologia: Para alcançar esse objetivo, utilizamos fontes bibliográficas majoritariamente brasileiras e de cunho qualitativo e quantitativo que tratavam da temática geral do trabalho. Selecionamos artigos, dissertações, monografias e documentos oficiais, sendo realizada uma análise dos números de mortalidade policial entre os anos de 2015 até 2021 que apontaram para índices atualizados referentes ao suicídio entre os policiais. Resultados: As pesquisas indicaram que o manejo laboral oportunizado a estes agentes tem se mostrado difíceis para qualquer pessoa vivenciar, e que o modelo hierárquico da corporação pode estar levando estes profissionais ao alto nível de estresse e a possíveis situações de abuso de autoridade. Conclusão: Consequentemente, constatou-se uma corporação com condutas sendo constantemente questionadas pela população, alto índice de adoecimento mental e um crescimento no número de mortalidade por autoextermínio
