Die bisherigen Methoden, die Knochen und Gelenke der Ful3wurzel .operativ freizulegen, benutzen wegen der zahlreichen Sehnen, Gef~13e und Nerven, die die Ful3wurzel wie ein l~,ngsgerichtetes Maschenwerk umspinnen, zumeist Schnitte in der L~ngsachse des Ful3es. Wegen der Dtinne der Weichteile auf dem Ful3riicken und an den Seiten werden diese Schnitte zumeist auf das Dorsum des Ful3es oder an seine Kanten verlegt; nur der Calcaneus ist in seinem hinteren Abschnitte von der Ferse aus leicht zug~inglich. Von diesen L~ingsschnitten aus gelingt es mit einiger Miihe, die d.orsale Seite der n~ichstge}egenen FuI3wurzelknochen bloflzulegen und die sich unmittelbar anschliel3enden Gelenke spaltf6rmig zu er6ffnen.Hlermit ist jedoch dem ]3ediirfnis der Praxis durchaus nicht immer geniigt. Zumeist l~it3t sich die Erkrankung der Ful3wurzel, sei es, dal3 es sich um eine Tuberkul, ose, sei e s, dat3 es sich tun einen eitrigen Prozel3 handelt, nicht yon vornherein streng auf das enge Gebiet eines bestimmten Knochens oder eines bestimmten Gelenks begrenzen, sondern der Krankheitsprozel3 hat eine Anzahl yon ZUll~ichst nicht mit Sicherheit zu bezeichnenden Knochen ergriffen und ist in den vielbuchtigen Gelenken in nicht schaff zu begrenzender Ausdehnung fortgekrochen. Die erste Aufgabe der Operation ist in diesen F,~illen, einen unbedingt klaren und verl~il3lichen iJberblick fiber die Ausdehnung der Erkrankung zu geben; erst die zweite Aufgabe besteht darin, die in ihrer Au:sbreitung nunmehr exakt festgestellten Krankheitsherde unter Leitung des Auges zu beseitigen und hierauf, wenn es sich um einen aseptischen

Die Frage der V e r s o r g u n g d e r H a u t u n d d e r N e rv e n kann als gel6st gelten, so dais es, falls nicht anderweitige Riicksichten den Vorrang beanspruchen, in der Regel weder bei prim/irer Amputation noch bei sekund~irer Stumpfkorrektur Schwierigkeiten macht, diese Gebilde derartig zu gestalten, daPo sie nach abgeschlossener Wundheilung keine nennenswerten Beschwerden machen.
