The main aim of this study is to obtain the validity and reliability of tactical skills assessment instrument for talent identification among Malaysian male young football players aged 13 to 14 years old. Five sub attributes are used to measure the attributes of tactical skills, which are offensive skills, one-on-one skills, defensive skills, defensive to offensive transition and offensive to defensive transition. A total of 120 male football players aged 13 to 14 years old who underwent training under the Malaysia National Football Development Programme were selected as study samples. Pearson correlation analysis were used to obtain validity of field experts. Cronbach's alpha analysis were used to obtain reliability coefficient of the assessment instrument on tactical skills. Factor analysis was used to obtain the construct validity of the questionnaire items. The factor analysis results showed 20 questionnaire items are valid from the overall 38 items constructed. The result of Pearson correlation analysis shows the value of field experts validity is r = .83. Cronbach's alpha analysis of the questionnaire items obtained high reliability value of α = .91 and the internal consistency coefficient for each sub attributes are offensive skills (α = .82), one-on-one skills (α = .81), defensive skills (α = .84), defensive to offensive transition (α = .82) and offensive to defensive transition (α = .81). The scale can be considered a suitable instrument to assess tactical skill levels among male young soccer players aged 13 to 14 years old.
The main aim of this study is to obtain the contract validity and reliability of social support assessment instrument to identify football talent among Malaysian male players aged 13 to 14 years. Three sub attributes are used to measure the attributes of social support, which are family, teammates and coaches. A total of 120 male football players aged 13 to 14 years who underwent training under the Malaysia National Football Development Program were selected as study samples. Pearson correlation analysis were used to obtain validity of field experts. Cronbach's alpha analysis were used to obtain reliability coefficient of the assessment instrument on social support. Factor analysis was used to obtain the construct validity of the questionnaire items. Findings of the study show that the construct validity of 35 questionnaire items of overall 60 items (r = .50), field expert validity (r = .96), reliability total value (α = .92) and the internal consistency coefficient for each sub attributes are family (α = .81), teammates (α = .85) and coaches (α = .83). Based on the findings, social support assessment instrument showed highly validity, reliability and acceptable to measure the extent to which a football young player believes that his need for supports, information and feedbacks are fulfilled by the family, teammates and coaches.
The main aim of this study is to identify the factors which influence playing ability performance in the identification process of young football talent as a whole. The evidences from the previous studies, Phase 1 National Football Development Plan:2014-2020 and the Roadmap of Malaysia Football Association: 2019-2030 shows that holistic approach in the process of identifying young talent is the main key in the development of a national football. The three main constraints were tasks, performers' and the environmental which involve the factors of training history, morphological, functional capacity, motor coordination, technical skills, tactical skills, psychological characteristics, biological maturity status, relative age effect and sociological which provide large influence to the football playing ability performance among the male youth football players. Both Newell (1986) constraint theory and the football expertise prediction model are able to explain the relationship between variables which is related to the multidimensional assessment approach in identifying the young talent of football.
