A fitorremediação com macrófitas é uma alternativa para recuperação de ambientes contaminados com efluentes. Desta forma, foram desenvolvidos os Sistemas Wetlands Construídas (SAC’s), que são projetados para reproduzir sistemas wetlands naturais. O objetivo do trabalho foi avaliar o desempenho das Wetlands construídas em escala piloto, como pós-tratamento de efluentes da Indústria de Panificação e Confeitaria, operados em diferentes tempos de detenção hidráulica, coletando efluentes após os tratamentos em reatores anaeróbios seguidos de lagoa de aeração. As atividades foram separadas em duas fases: (1) Caracterização do efluente bruto, construção das unidades piloto dos SAC’s, período para estabilização do leito e aplicação de mudas de macrófitas aquáticas (Juncus effusus e Syngonium podophyllum). 2. Aplicação dos efluentes líquidos nos leitos piloto, coleta do efluente final para avaliação da eficiência de remoção de parâmetros específicos conforme os períodos de detenção hidráulica pré-estipulados de 5, 10, 15, 20, 25, 40 e 45 horas. Para avaliação da eficiência de remoção considerou os parâmetros: demanda química de oxigênio (DQO) e nitrogênio amoniacal (NH4+). Os resultados mostraram que o maior tempo de detenção hidráulica (> 40 h) foram melhores e influenciaram positivamente na redução de valores de DQO. Dentre as espécies de macrófitas testadas, observou-se significância e melhor eficiência de J. effusus na redução de valores de nitrogênio amoniacal, enquanto a espécie S. podophyllum obteve melhor resultado para a variável DQO. Portanto, é possível concluir que o sistema wetlands foi eficiente na redução de NH4+ dos efluentes da lagoa aerada e DQO dos efluentes oriundos do reator anaeróbico.
