IntroductionUltrasound-guided transrectal prostatic biopsy is generally a well-tolerated radiological technique with low overall complication ratio. If post-biopsy rectal bleeding occurs, conservative management is effective in the majority of cases. Endoscopic or interventional treatment is rarely required.Case presentationWe report the case of an 82-year-old white man presenting with massive rectal bleeding after ultrasound-guided prostatic biopsy. Medical and endoscopic management were not effective. Angiographic evaluation revealed a prostatic arteriovenous fistula, and definitive treatment was provided in the form of catheter-directed superselective embolotherapy.ConclusionTransrectal prostatic biopsy may be associated with massive rectal bleeding. Transcatheter embolotherapy can be effective in definitively stopping the bleeding.

Background:A 48-year-old man presented with persisting tinnitus and progressive worsening occipital headaches, neckpain, ataxia and paresthesia of the scalp. There was no recent trauma in his recent history.

To measure the diameter and the transsectional area of the internal carotid arteries (ICA) on CT Angiography (CTA) in patients with aplasia of the A1-segment of the ACA (A1) and in patients with symmetrical A1, the mean diameter and area of the ICA on both sides were measured at a level of 2 cm below the skull base with a commercially available CT software in 41 consecutive patients with aplasia of A1 observed during a 12-month period on CTA and in 41 control patients with symmetrical A1. The mean diameter of the ipsilateral ICA was 3.83 ± 0.60 mm versus 4.86 ± 0.60 mm as mean diameter of the contralateral ICA and versus 4.40 ± 0.60 mm as mean diameter of both ICAs in the control group of patients. The mean area of the ipsilateral ICA was 11.58 ± 3.80 mm versus 18. 82 ± 7.39 mm as mean area of the contralateral ICA and versus 15.29 ± 4.42 mm as mean area of both ICA in the control group of patients. These differences are statistically highly significant. In patients with symmetrical A1, there was no statistical difference between the diameter or area of both internal carotid arteries. In conclusion, in patients with aplasia of A1, the ipsilateral diameter and area of the cervical ICA is smaller than the diameter and area of the contralateral ICA and smaller than the diameter and area of both internal carotid arteries in patients with symmetrical A1.

We report a case of sudden onset of respiratory distress caused by pulmonary edema due to laryngospasm. The diagnosis was established by the clinical context and chest X-ray. A CT-scan was performed to narrow down the differential diagnosis and to confirm the diagnosis. Postextubation pulmonary edema due to laryngospasm is a rare entity with a typical clinical and radiographic presentation.

A 50-year-old woman presented with pain in her right upper abdomen. In her medical history we note a Caesarean section and a laparotomy with bilateral ovariectomy because of benign cysts. The liver enzymes were mildly elevated: aspartate transaminase 40 U/l (reference < 32 U/l), alanine transaminase 53 U/l (reference < 31 U/l), gamma-glutamyl transferase 97 U/l (reference 5 – 36). Computed tomography (CT) revealed a large lesion in the right liver lobe with a cyst within cyst appearance and with important compression of the surrounding tissue (figure 1, panel A). The total diameter measured 29 cm by 17 cm by 22 cm.
