This study is part of a more extensive project that aims to rescue significant aspects related to the evolution of nursing care from 1950s until 1990s. This study was developed using the technique of oral declaration by active and retired registered nurses, in the context of a school-hospital from the interior of the São Paulo State. The present study particularizes the outcomes regarding to 1980s. As result becomes evident the undertaken effort by nurses in the struggle for profession's recognition and prestige; intense and deep transformations related to nurse's new roles as leadership of the nursing staff and members of the medical team.
O envolvimento e a participação dos pais trouxeram transformações na assistência à criança hospitalizada, surgindo a necessidade de um melhor preparo da enfermagem para uma atuação conjunta com os pais nas enfermarias. A literatura recente em enfermagem pediátrica vem divulgando pesquisas e experiências objetivando uma maior eficácia e satisfação no cuidado à criança com a participação da família. A compreensão das relações de poder que se estabelecem entre pais e profissionais também tem sido objeto de investigação.O livro de Philip Darbyshire, graduado pela Universidade de Glasgow Caledonian, Departamento de Estudos de Enfermagem, na Escócia, é baseado em recente pesquisa de doutorado do autor, realizada no Departamento de Estudos de Enfermagem da Universidade de Edinburgh, no período de 1986 a 1989, o qual examina com detalhes as experiências da relação vivida por pais e enfermeiros nos aspectos decisivos da hospitalização pediátrica.O presente estudo teve como objetivos analisar as experiências e vivências dos pais que permaneciam junto aos seus filhos durante a hospitalização; conhecer as percepções dos enfermeiros diante deste contexto e explorar as relações entre eles e os pais, entendendo o seu significado.
