Vibrio vulnificus infection often causes serious or fatal disease. Recently, in Japan there have been numerousreports of Vibrio vulnificus infection. Here, wereport a successfully treated case of Vibrio vulnificus septicemia with shock, disseminated intravascular coagulation (DIG) and necrotizing cellulitis in a middleaged heavy drinker with chronic alcoholic liver disease. On reviewing 38 cases in Japan including ours, the overall mortality rate was 68%. Although the incidence is relatively low, it is recommendedto warn patients in the high risk category, such as liver disease patients, to avoid raw fish and shellfish and limit sea water exposure.
This paper presents a new wet etching technique for micromachining called single-step electrochemical etching for micro structures (SEEMS), which is based on electrochemical etching in hydrofluoric acid. During the etching, the shape of the etched structure can be controlled by changing the light intensity. Several problems involved in the SEEMS process had to be solved. The two main problems are, firstly, that over-etching can be seen at the clamping point of the free standing beam and, secondly, it is difficult to remove large areas. These problems can be considerably reduced by an improved mask layout and a perforated mass supported by a single cantilever can be achieved. In addition, a new initial pit formation is demonstrated to make structures which are free from crystal orientation of silicon substrate.
SynopsisFree surface fluctuations of molten steel in the mold of a continuous caster are considered to have a significant effect on the surface quality of the cast.To find out the relationship between the surface wave motion of molten steel near the mold wall during casting and mold oscillation, the meniscus of molten steel in the mold was directly observed through a quartz glass window mounted on the mold wall. As a result, it was confirmed that the meniscus fluctuates at the same period and phase as those of the mold oscillation.
scite is a Brooklyn-based organization that helps researchers better discover and understand research articles through Smart Citations–citations that display the context of the citation and describe whether the article provides supporting or contrasting evidence. scite is used by students and researchers from around the world and is funded in part by the National Science Foundation and the National Institute on Drug Abuse of the National Institutes of Health.
