Overlapping of essential thrombocythemia (ET) and multiple myeloma (MM) has been extremely rare. Our report concerns a case with concomitant ET and MM, where JAK2V617F was present in non-myeloma peripheral blood leukocytes and bone marrow (BM) hematopoietic cells, but not in BM-derived CD138-positive myeloma cells. In contrast, double-color fluorescence in situ hybridization analysis showed that BM-derived CD138-positive myeloma cells possessed the gene translocation between the immunoglobulin heavy chain gene and the cyclin D1 gene, which was not involved in non-myeloma hematopoietic cells. This is the first case with concomitant ET and MM in which the 2 hematologic neoplasms were shown to have originated from separate malignant clones at hierarchically different differentiation levels resulting from independent acquisition of different molecular aberrations. Among the 10 reported cases, including ours, ET preceded MM in 8 cases, but MM never preceded ET. We suggest that MM clones may have greater proliferative potency compared with ET clones, and that the treatment modification from ET to MM did not seem to exacerbate ET in most reported cases, perhaps because of the suppression of the ET clone by both the cytotoxic effect of anti-myeloma therapy and the clonal repression by MM progression.
The purpose of this study was to develop and validate a brief version of the Japanese Academic and Athletic Identity Scale (AAIS-JB), which would enable the survey to be easily conducted online nationwide in Japan. In addition, this study determined the centrality of academic and athletic identities in the elite student-athletes with scholarships and the sub-elite student-athletes with no scholarships. Participants ( n = 1009) consisted of student-athletes from 20 universities (5 districts) in Japan, of which 560 were elite athletes (i.e. receiving scholarships) and 449 were sub-elite athletes (i.e. not receiving scholarships). Results showed content validity, factorial validity, and reliability of the brief version of the AAIS-JB. Both athletic and academic identities were significantly higher for the elite student-athletes than for the sub-elite student-athletes. Differences between the elite and sub-elite student-athletes provide important insights into the further development of intercollegiate sports in Japan. Sports administrators and the coaching staffs engaged with student-athletes can support student-athletes by understanding more about the dominant dimensions of their identity to maximize its positive impact on student-athletes.
La siguiente investigación presenta un enfoque de tipo descriptivo, asimismo, para llevar a cabo el estudio, se contó con la participación de un grupo de tercer semestre de la carrera de contaduría perteneciente a la Unidad Académica de Contaduría y Administración. El objetivo es conocer la utilización del método poster tour, y de la misma manera, presentar los beneficios que brinda a los estudiantes en la comprensión de los temas en un nivel superior. Con este tipo de método, se observó una participación más interactiva de los estudiantes, promoviendo ideas, sugerencias y correcciones sobre la información presentada, teniendo como resultado un pensamiento crítico. Es decir, se suman beneficios como la variedad de la información encontrada en los diferentes posters, teniendo retroalimentación en toda ocasión, de manera que refuerza lo aprendido, manteniendo una participación constante, reflejando el dominio sobre los temas desarrollados, y manteniendo en todo momento el trabajo colaborativo. Este tipo de herramientas fortalecen las estrategias de los docentes al aplicar métodos innovadores para la enseñanza y el aprendizaje, demostrando el avance pedagógico y ser aplicado a diversidad de estudiantes.
