Simultaneous elevation of GGT and ALT was significantly associated with type 2 diabetes mellitus incidence, independent of potential confounding factors, including alcohol drinking and obesity, although the association might require concomitant elevation of triglycerides. Inclusion of GGT and ALT improved type 2 diabetes mellitus risk prediction.
A random-points measurement of average SMC thickness provides a descriptive evaluation of the severity of peritoneal fibrosis that minimizes artefacts during processing and avoids human error. In addition, the average patency in post-capillary venules appears to accurately reflect clinical features such as PD duration and peritoneal permeability.
It is well known that obesity and insulin resistance are closely related to the development of type 2 diabetes. However, the exact pathogenic mechanism underlying the insulin resistance in renal disease has not been
It appears that alterations in PGs, including marked induction of versican with peritonitis and disappearance of decorin, are involved in peritoneal remodelling in PD patients. Versican expression was closely related to the appearance of myofibroblasts and macrophages. These observations suggest that the alteration in PG components following PD therapy and severe inflammation contribute to fibrous thickening of the peritoneum.
scite is a Brooklyn-based organization that helps researchers better discover and understand research articles through Smart Citations–citations that display the context of the citation and describe whether the article provides supporting or contrasting evidence. scite is used by students and researchers from around the world and is funded in part by the National Science Foundation and the National Institute on Drug Abuse of the National Institutes of Health.
