Metabolic syndrome (MS) is widespread in the human population, and its incidence is continuously increasing, generating serious health problems. The purpose of this study was to find the relationship between the parameters of MS and the melanocortin type 4 receptor (MC4R) gene polymorphism in postmenopausal women. The study involved 344 healthy Polish women, who had their last menstrual cycle 1 year ago or earlier. The study included blood analysis, survey, and body measurements. The mean age was 58.5±6.6 years. An increased body mass index was observed in 65.7% and abdominal obesity in 80.3% of the study population. MS was diagnosed in 40.7% of all participants, including 39.3% of women with the T/T genotype and 44.7% of those with the C/X genotype (χ2 test; P>0.05). A logistic regression model showed that the probability of MS was higher in patients with the C/X genotype (odds ratio =1.25) (χ2 test; P>0.05). The study concluded that MS is a very common condition among postmenopausal women. The C/X genotype of the MC4R gene seems to predispose postmenopausal women to developing some MS symptoms.
Materiał i metody. Jakość życia, uwarunkowana stanem zdrowia 145 pielęgniarek, została zbadana w oparciu o polską adaptację kwestionariusza EQ 5D. Poza danymi demograficznymi zawiera on ocenę stanu zdrowia w 5 aspektach życia codziennego takich jak: możliwości ruchowe, samoobsługa, codzienna aktywność, stan psychiczny oraz globalna subiektywna ocena swojego zdrowia (tzw. EQ-VAS). Wyniki. Umiarkowane problemy w zakresie co najmniej jednej domeny jakości życia zgłosiło 65,52% respondentów, skrajne problemy 1,4%. Ból lub dyskomfort odczuwało 48,97% ankietowanych, niepokój lub obniżenie nastoju-50,3%. Problemy z chodzeniem zgłosiło 6,2%, z wykonaniem zwykłych czynności-10,34%. Ból i lęk są najczęściej zgłaszanymi problemami, zwłaszcza wśród młodszej grupy badanych kobiet. Średnia ocena stanu zdrowia-według wizualnej skali analogowej (visual analougue scale VAS)-wynosiła 78,85 punktów (SD 13,85). Wnioski.

Introduction: Professional nursing is increasingly often understood as accompanying and assisting people during health, disease and limited fitness. It is also shaping their self-care capabilities. The complexity of these tasks puts great responsibility on nurses, since they are those health care professionals who are in direct contact with patients’ families and communities. Nurses’ functions are exceptional because they involve the management and organization of holistic care in work with patients and their families (nursing and educational activities, cooperation with other members of a therapeutic team). The purpose of this study was to analyze their level of knowledge concerning their tasks and professional competences in family nurse practitioners employed in primary health care centers.Materials and methods: The research were carried out from February 2014 to the end of October 2015 in entities providing nursing services in primary health care in north-western Poland. For the analysis 643 questionnaire surveys were accepted. Results: Family nurse practitioners in north-western Poland show a satisfactory level of knowledge in the field of professional competence. Nurses have especially high levels of knowledge concerning patients’ access to nursing services, information provided by primary care physicians as part of cooperation in the care of a patient, the nursing process method, and care of elderly and chronically ill individuals. The nurses had gaps in their knowledge of selected nursing services, such as bladder irrigation, transport, and rectal procedures. Alarmingly low levels of knowledge were observed with regard to professional competence in the care of patients with mental diseases.
