The increasingly fierce competition in food trends requires producers to innovate and develop new foods to be accepted and to avoid neophobia by consumers at the same time. Food neophobia’s motivational adoption barriers include the consumption of novel foods, social norms and conflicting eating goals. Therefore, appropriate strategies are needed to avoid neophobia amid the presence of new food trends in the market. Efforts to avoid food neophobia can also be accepted as part of the sustainability concept, in which the consumer has new foods to choose from in order to reduce scarcity in one particular type of food. The food industry is also challenged to produce healthy food by producing food from natural ingredients. In this article, new food trends and advances in food processing are described, and through them, strategies to avoid neophobia and increase consumer acceptance of new food trends are referenced. Neophobia meets marketing food products delivered to consumers facing motivational adoption barriers, such as the consumption of novel foods, social norms and conflicting eating goals, which are indicated to be challenges to purchase drivers in new food trends. Tasting foods is indicated as one of the most efficient means to ensure neophobia reduction in new foods and new food trends. Other factors identified to reduce food neophobia are education, income, taste and exposure to novel foods. Some preconditions for novel foods to be accepted by consumers are related to the very nature of food innovation, the manufacturer’s features and market circumstances. Food processed with advanced technologies may differ depending on the brand of the food production company and the knowledge of consumers about the novel foods. Moreover, food technology is seen as more acceptable for plant food products based or natural ingredients for consumers. In addition to the focus on health benefits, it is supports the sustainability of food systems. Another accidental element is the transparent traceability system providing accurate and adequate information about such novel foods.
A crude methanolic extract of the Indonesian sponge Clathria bulbotoxa showed a potent cytotoxic activity against the human epidermoid carcinoma A431 cells. An investigation of the active components led to the isolation of three new compounds named crambescidins 345 (1), 361 (2), and 373 (3), together with the known related metabolites crambescidins 359 (4), 657 (5), and 800 (6). The structures of the compounds were determined by spectroscopic analysis. These compounds 1–4 that possess a simple pentacyclic guanidine core exhibited moderate cytotoxicity against the A431 cells with the IC50 values of 7.0, 2.5, 0.94, and 3.1 μM, respectively, while the known compounds 5 and 6 that possess a long aliphatic side chain were found to be significantly cytotoxic. On the other hand, in an anti-oomycete activity test against the fungus-like plant pathogen Phytophthora capsici, 1–4 showed a higher activity than that of 5 and 6, suggesting that the long aliphatic side chain plays a significant role for cytotoxicity, but is not effective or suppressive for anti-oomycete activity.
A study was conducted to evaluate table eggs in Manokwari city. A total of 300 eggs were examined for external and internal qualities. The eggs were gathered from different places: local farmer for local eggs (1 respondent), markets for imported eggs (2 respondents)), supermarkets (4 respondents), egg distributors (1 respondent), and stalls (10 respondents)). The egg examinations were done twice, first was the time when no ship for egg transport came to Manokwari (period 1) to assume that the eggs had been kept for quite long before reached the consumers and second was the time when ship for egg transport that just arrived to Manokwari with the assumption that he eggs were still relatively fresh (periode 2). Results showed that the majority of table eggs in Manokwari had brown shells followed by spotted and light brown, all with oval shapes. Eggs gathered at period 2 were larger than those of period 1; local eggs were significantly heavier than imported eggs due to the difference of egg freshness. The local eggs of period 2 showed a very good air sac with AA quality, while the imported eggs had the air sac quality for A and B. The highest yolk score (8.88) were observed at local eggs at period 2.
PAUD Karuna Dipa Palu merupakan satuan pendidikan anak usia dini yang mengintegrasikan nilai multikultural dalam kegiatan pembelajaran. Perencanaan pembelajaran di PAUD Karuna Dipa Palu didesain untuk menginternalisasikan nilai multikulturalisme. Penelitian ini bertujuan untuk menemukan dan mendeskripsikan perencanaan pembelajaran nilai multukultural yang dilakukan PAUD Karuna Dipa Palu. Metode penelitian yang digunakan adalah deskriptif-kualitatif, yaitu penelitian yang mengkaji fenomena perencanaan pembelajaran nilai multikultural dengan fokus mengekspos fenomena tersebut. Hasil penelitiannya adalah perencanaan pembelajaran multikultural di disusun berdasarkan Kurikulum 2013 yang perencanaan dan bahan pembelajaran multikulturalnya disusun dalam bentuk RPPM yang berbasis nilai multikultural dan dikembangkan melalui RPPH. RPPM dan RPPH menjadi dasar perencanaan pembelajaran yang memuat kompetensi inti dan kompetensi dasar dengan menggunakan model pembelajaran tematik terpadu. Penyusunannya dilakukan dengan menetapkan RPPH dengan mengacu pada RPPM yang berisi waktu kegiatan belajar, materi belajar, materi pembiasaan, alat, media, sumber belajar, dan kegiatan yang menginternalisasikan nilai multikultural
