Road related accidents have always been a nuisance to drivers and pedestrians alike.Every year countless accidents and deaths occur due to potholes which could have been preventable if there had been a prior warning or if the civic authorities were able to repair these potholes in time. This paper proposes a machine learning based pothole detection system called DeepBus for real time identification of surface irregularities on roads using Internet of Things (IoT). DeepBus uses IoT sensors to detect potholes in real time while an end user is driving vehicles on the road. The location of these potholes would be available on a centrally hosted map which can be accessed by both end users and civic authorities. Thus, it would serve as a warning system to all users as well as a database of potholes with thier locations to the authorities for quick repair and action. We have compared the performance of various machine learning models (Logistic Regression, Support Vector Machine (SVM), K-Nearest Neighbors (KNN), Naive Bayes, Decision Tree, Random Forest and Ensemble Voting) based on different parameters (Accuracy, F-score, Precision and Recall) and identified that Random Forest is the best model for pothole detection.
Antioxidants are substances that prevent oxidation of other compounds or neutralize free radicals. Spices and herbs are rich sources of antioxidants which are used in food and beverages such as tea to enhance flavor, aroma and color. Antioxidant potential of the spices and herbs extracts was analyzed as contents of total phenols and flavonoids; and reducing power by the ferric reducing antioxidant power assay (FRAP). For the 4 spices and 2 herbs evaluated, crude protein was highest in clove (46.94 ± 1.15mg/ml) followed by tulsi (15.36 ± 0.31mg/ml), fennel (14.17 ± 1.05mg/ml), black pepper (13.43 ± 2.12mg/ml), cinnamon (7.62 ± 0.22mg/ml) and mint (3.07 ± 0.12mg/ml). Carbohydrates levels differed between all spices and herbs with tulsi (10.02 ± 0.84mg/ml) having high carbohydrate levels followed by fennel (9.99 ± 0.88mg/ml) and black pepper (8.19 ± 0.mg/ml 79) whereas mint (5.89 ± 0.37mg/ml), cinnamon (4.68 ± 0.44mg/ml) and clove (4.46 ± 0.76mg/ml) had low carbohydrate levels. The significantly higher level of phenolics (118.3 mg ± 21.21mg TAE/gm) and flavonoids (57.16 ± 2.12mg AAE/gm) was reported in clove (p≤ 0.05) as compared to other spices and herbs studied. The clove has significantly high antioxidative capacity (32.73 ± 0.84mg AAE/gm) (p≤ 0.05) than all other spices and herbs studied in the present study.
Fortunato Depero was an artist, illustrator, and stage designer who played a central role in developing the art of modern typography. Affiliated with the Italian futurist movement, he was motivated by deep frustration with artistic traditions. He was perhaps the most persistent artist of futurism, with his work embodying many of the movement’s primary inclinations throughout his career. In typography, futurism broke the conventions of the printed page by using asymmetrical layouts, multiple colors and new typefaces. Depero pushed futurism beyond avant-garde circles and into the commercial sphere by applying typographic dynamism to advertising. His typographic expression was represented conceptually in his book Depero Futurista (1927), in advertising by his covers for Vogue magazine (1929–1930), and by an iconic poster entitled Subway (1929).
Abram Games belonged to the golden age of British graphic design and as a freelance commercial artist he produced posters for clients including Shell, London Transport, BEA, Guinness, the Royal Shakespeare Company, London Zoo, the Metropolitan Police, The Times, and The Financial Times. His career spanned six decades and saw commercial art develop into the discipline of graphic design. His career is a collection of work done by a man of tireless invention and is a major contribution to British modernism. The force of his design came partly from the Bauhaus with its geometric directness, but Games also learned from a completely different strand of modern art, surrealism, when he fused different objects. Games secured his reputation through a series of stunning wartime propaganda posters for the War Office, of which, Join the ATS (1941) and Your Talk May Kill Your Comrades (1942) are the most famous.
