Food production, based on intensive farming, contributes to high and constantly increasing pollution of soils and other environmental resources. Given this, search for non-conventional sources of animal protein seems justified. The present study was designed to examine opinions of selected Polish consumers related to their acceptance of insect-based food as an alternative source of nutrients. The assessment of attitudes towards alternative sources of nutrients was based on the survey developed at the Faculty of Science, University of Porto in Portugal. Representatives of Polish consumers in the region of Podkarpackie generally did not show open-mindedness towards incorporating insect-based food into their diet. Majority of the respondents, however, recognized the importance of food sector operation based on respect for natural resources. Therefore, it seems important that consumers be informed about the advantages of production or use of insect biomass originating from natural ecosystems. This may contribute to increased acceptance for alternative sources of protein, which consequently may lead to reduced environmental pressure of traditional livestock farming and to retardation of ecosystems transformation and loss of biological diversity.
This study on Silphidae fauna was carried out at different sites forming part of an agricultural landscape. Catches were carried out in two selected habitats (Borek Stary and Widna Góra) in the Subcarpathian region (south-eastern Poland) during three growing seasons (2009-2010 and 2014) using Barber pitfall traps. It included potato, fodder beet and cereal crops (Widna Góra) as well as field margins (Borek Stary and Widna Góra). Four traps were placed at each of the sites studied then were emptied on average every two weeks. As a result of the observations, a total of 5491 beetles from 13 species were collected.
Self-determination theorists (SDT) argue that the satisfaction of the need for relatedness is essential for growth and well-being. However, the current research has yet to account for the unique ways in which adolescent males engage in behaviors to fulfill their need for relatedness within their peer groups. This qualitative study investigates relatedness in six 16-to 17-year-old adolescent males. Independent observations of videotape data and a collaborative analysis revealed 13 main indicators of moment-to-moment relatedness. These indicators include expressing belonging, referring to shared experiences, and helping others out. The indicators of relatedness are discussed in the context of SDT, and additional theoretical frameworks provide an integrative understanding of the construct. Implications for research on the need for relatedness across diverse settings and populations are discussed and the utility of the indicators for professionals who work with adolescent males is considered.
Krajobraz Rzeszowa kształtował się przez stulecia. Obecnie tereny zabudowanemiasta stanowią ponad czterdzieści procent jego powierzchni. Zabudowa Rzeszowa ma charakter zwarty. Miasto posiada ponad tysiąc budowli i obiektów o charakterze zabytkowym. Współczesna zabudowa Rzeszowa powstaje w coraz to szybszym tempie, wywierając zróżnicowany wpływ na odbiór wizualny otoczenia, interakcje z istniejącą zabudową i przyrodą.
