This is a study on the costumes worn by Carmen Miranda during the Hollywood film "Week-End in Havana", released in 1941. It analyzes the elements of costume and discusses how they are appropriate in the current fashion discourse reinforcing or perpetuating, somehow, the discourse about Brazil and Latin America created by the performance of Carmen many decades ago.

O estudo foi realizado a partir de análise de filmes hollywoodianos estrelados por Carmen Miranda e por revisão bibliográfica adequada. Na década de 1930 tem início as tentativas de industrialização do cinema brasileiro com os novos estúdios que se estabelecem no Rio de Janeiro. O presente artigo é um relato de uma experiência pedagógica não formal, que propôs a leitura de três imagens a um grupo de 5 pessoas de gêneros e idades diversas. As imagens analisadas foram escolhidas por remeteram à capa da Revista Vogue US com Beyoncé, na edição de setembro de 2018. A intenção foi investigar se é possível promover uma discussão sobre imagens de moda e uma ampliação da percepção sobre a cultura visual, por meio do exercício da leitura de imagens. A proposta foi sistematizada em três momentos pedagógicos e a leitura de imagens baseou-se em Oliveira (2006). Como resultado, notou-se um aprofundamento no olhar dos participantes e a abertura de discussões significativas sobre modelos de feminilidade e relações intertextuais em torno da temática das representações das baianas.
