Antecedentes: Los bosques tropicales caducifolios y subcaducifolios se distingue por su diversidad florística, su notable concentración de especies endémicas, alto recambio y baja similitud de especies.
Preguntas: ¿Cuál es la diversidad alfa y beta de las especies de plantas leñosas del bosque tropical caducifolio y subcaducifolio en Sierra de Vallejo?
Sitio y período de estudio: Sierra de Vallejo forma parte del Área de Protección de Recursos Naturales, Sierra de Vallejo-Río Ameca, Nayarit-Jalisco; agosto 2017 a mayo 2018.
Métodos: Se establecieron 15 transectos de 0.1 ha, identificando a cada planta leñosa con diámetro a la altura del pecho (DAP = 1.30 m) ≥ 3 cm. La diversidad alfa se analizó considerando la diversidad verdadera basada en el número efectivo de especies y curvas de rango abundancia. La diversidad beta se analizó con similitud, recambio y anidamiento.
Resultados: Se registraron 1,556 individuos, pertenecientes a 45 familias, 99 géneros y 126 especies; 22 especies son endémicas a México, una endémica a la región, 84 nativas y cuatro exóticas. Los sitios se caracterizaron por presentar una baja riqueza de especies observadas (13-37 especies), alta variación en la abundancia (44-229 individuos), una baja diversidad verdadera (q0, 18-49 especies), alto recambio (91-96 %), bajo anidamiento (0.9-1 %) y baja similitud (8 %).
Conclusiones: Los valores de diversidad florística muestran la importancia de preservar la mayor cantidad de áreas con bosque tropical dentro de Sierra de Vallejo, reforzando las estrategias de conservación y manejo del bosque dentro de esta Área Natural Protegida de Recursos Naturales.
Introducción: Los disturbios antrópicos como los desazolves afectan los componentes estructurales y funcionales de los bosques riparios, comprometiendo su capacidad de proveer servicios ecosistémicos.Objetivos: Cuantificar la pérdida de cobertura vegetal de un bosque ripario por acciones de desazolve en el río Pitillal (Puerto Vallarta, Jalisco).Materiales y métodos: Se utilizó el índice multiespectral NDVI en conjunto con matrices de cambio de uso de suelo y vegetación para determinar la extensión, pérdida de cobertura vegetal e impacto al momento del desazolve y un año después del suceso.Resultados y discusión: La superficie de desazolve fue 6.93 ha, de las cuales 2.82 ha (40.7 %) fueron áreas severamente afectadas con pérdida total de cobertura vegetal; el suelo desnudo incrementó superficialmente en 736 %. Un año después del desazolve, se identificó el inicio de un proceso de sucesión, siendo el suelo desnudo reemplazado por herbáceas y arbustos.Conclusión: El bosque presentó daño severo a causa del desazolve, pero mostró posible recuperación después del impacto.

La composición y diversidad de las lagartijas son influenciadas por el tipo de vegetación, debido a que éste determina la estructura física y ambiental de sus hábitats. El objetivo de este estudio fue determinar y analizar la diversidad taxonómica de las lagartijas del área prioritaria de conservación Sierra El Cuale, Jalisco, México, asociada a cuatro tipos de vegetación: bosque tropical subcaducifolio (BT), bosque de encino (BE), bosque de pino-encino (BPE) y el bosque de pino (BP). Se realizaron muestreos mensuales entre julio de 2015 y junio de 2016. Se registró una riqueza total de 12 especies en el área de estudio: ocho en BT, nueve en BE, seis en BPE y seis en BP. Las curvas de acumulación de especies mostraron que se requiere más esfuerzo de muestreo para caracterizar en su totalidad a la comunidad de lagartijas. Anolis nebulosus, Sceloporus melanorhinus y S. utiformis se observaron en los cuatro tipos de vegetación, pero Basiliscus vittatus, Gerrhonotus liocephalus y Scincella assatus solo en uno. Un análisis de escalamiento multidimensional no métrico (NMDS) identificó dos grupos según la presencia de especies de lagartijas y estaciones del año (lluvias y seca): BPE-BP y BT-BE. La distintividad taxonómica promedio (Δ+) y la riqueza de especies fueron altas en la estación lluviosa. Los resultados de este estudio muestran que la riqueza de especies de lagartijas en la Sierra El Cuale está vinculada a la variedad de tipos vegetación. Por otro lado, el análisis comparativo de la Δ+ entre la Sierra El Cuale y las Reservas de la Biosfera de Chamela-Cuixmala y Manantlán, mostró que la Sierra El Cuale tiene un papel importante en la contribución regional de la diversidad de lagartijas.
