The results showed a significant difference in the cleaning capacity of the root canals with ProFiles and K-files, in apical and coronal thirds of the root canal. ProFiles have been found to be more efficient in cleaning the coronal thirds and K-files in cleaning apical thirds of the root canals. Both the techniques were almost equally effective in cleaning the middle thirds of the canals. The time taken during the cleaning of the root canals appeared to be statistically shorter with K-files than profiles.
Purpose/objectives
To investigate dental students’ perceptions and concerns regarding the COVID‐19 pandemic, their coping strategies and support resources, and their perceived stress levels.
Methods
A customized 19‐item survey and the perceived stress scale (PSS) were applied to undergraduate dental students from the US, Spain, Ireland, Chile, India, and Brazil between April 10 and July 5, 2020. Linear modeling and mediation analysis were used to explore the relationships among demographics, stressors, coping mechanisms, social support, and stress
Results
A total of 4475 students responded to the survey. The majority (72.4%) were women, and 52.3% had no COVID‐19 training at the time of the survey. The students reported that they had to accommodate to changes in patient care (96.6%) and didactic learning (95.2%) activities, while 88.5% of the respondents indicated at least one of their courses moved online. Transition to online courses went “smoothly with some troubles” for 51.8% of the respondents, and 48.3% perceived the faculty as prepared for the online transition; however, 45.9% reported feeling extremely concerned about the impact of COVID‐19 on their education. The average PSS score was 21.9 of 40 (moderate stress). Multivariate models were built for participants with full data (n = 3899). Being male, having completed more dental coursework, and perceiving a smoother transition were associated with lower PSS scores; more concern about academic progress was associated with higher PSS. Faculty support mediated the relationship between a smoothness of transition and concern about academic progress and PSS scores
Conclusion
Stress caused by the pandemic may be alleviated by smoother transition and good faculty support.
The mandible and its growth did not alter the position of the MF, both vertically and horizontally, in relation to different landmarks, and more obtuse GoA indicated an increased growth potential of the mandible. This has major implications in the inferior alveolar nerve block technique when used in children.
The purpose of this study was to assess the attitude towards replacement of teeth among patients who reported to the department of prosthodontics in the Institute of Dental Sciences, Belgaum, which is located in the northwestern part of the state of Karnataka in the southern region of India. A fourteen-item, closed-ended questionnaire was completed by 365 volunteer patients who were then examined by a clinician and existing and missing teeth were charted. All the patients who reported to a dental clinic in a period of two months with at least one missing tooth were included in the study. Collected data were statistically analyzed using chi-square test at a significance level of p<0.05. The age of the subjects ranged from sixteen to eighty-four years (mean age 51.06 ±16.47 years). Among these 365 patients, 228 were in a waiting period for soft tissue healing after extraction of tooth/teeth; 19.7 percent of the patients gave financial constraints as the reason for not replacing teeth; 7.1 percent reported that they lacked the time to have teeth replaced; 6.9 percent had low felt needs; and 3.8 percent indicated they did not know that teeth could be replaced. Subjects with different levels of socioeconomic status reported different reasons for not replacing the teeth and these differences were statistically significant (χ 2 =61.16, P<0.001). Knowledge about the equivalence of artificial teeth with natural teeth (χ 2 =23.01, P<0.05) and problems with artificial teeth (χ 2 =17.25, P<0.05) were also significantly different among subjects from different socioeconomic categories. The findings indicate that awareness needs to be increased regarding the other functions of teeth like esthetics and phonetics because many subjects in this study were only aware of the function of mastication performed by teeth, especially among individuals in the lower socioeconomic group. Attitudes of patients should be taken into consideration to improve patient compliance with and acceptance of prostheses.
