BACKGROUND AND PURPOSE:It is proposed that isocitrate dehydrogenase 1 (IDH1) mutation predicts the outcome in patients with high-grade glioma. In addition, contrast enhancement on preoperative MR imaging reflects tumor biologic features. Patients with anaplastic glioma with the IDH1 mutation were evaluated by using MR imaging to determine whether tumor enhancement is a prognostic factor and can be used to predict survival.
BACKGROUND AND PURPOSE: Skull base chordoma has been widely studied in recent years, however, imaging characteristics of this tumor have not been well elaborated. The purpose of this study was to establish an MR imaging grading system for skull base chordoma.
BACKGROUND AND PURPOSE: Vascular endothelial growth factor is a well-known tumor-specific biomarker that mediates angiogenesis in glioblastoma via hypoxia-dependent mechanisms. Our aim was to investigate the correlation of clinical characteristics, radiologic features, and vascular endothelial growth factor expression with survival outcomes in patients with glioblastoma.
Ipsilateral cerebellar atrophy can be found in infratentorial GGs involving the middle and inferior cerebellar peduncles. GGs should therefore be considered in the differential diagnoses when a solid-cystic mass with calcification is encountered in the cerebellum. Brainstem GGs tend to be smaller, solid masses with moderate-to-marked enhancement. Dorsal-predominant and posterior-marginal enhancement may be the specific imaging findings for brainstem GGs.
The biomembrane is postulated as the initial target when Platinum(II) complexes
attack cells. In this work, a spin-labeling ESR technique has been used to study the effects
of cis-DCDP, cis-DBDP, cis-DIDP, trans-DCDP, and cis-DADP on the permeability of
human erythrocyte membrane. We monitored the reduction processes of the ESR signal of
a nitroxide spin label, (TEMPO), which leaks out through the membrane and is reduced by
the external ascorbate. Our results indicate that cisplatin and its analogues can enhance the
permeability of membranes to small moieties such as TEMPO and ascorbate, and the
differences between these compounds are related to features of the leaving group. In
addition, changes in the order parameter of 5DS spin label in membrane indicate that
hydrolysis of these Pt(II) complexes result in membrane damage.
The effects of bilirubin on the membrane motion parameters of human erythrocyte membrane were determined by the spin labelled ESR method. It causes a decrease in the order parameter and an increase in the corresponding fluidity of the lipid molecules. Bovine serum albumin was found to inhibit effectively the effects due to bilirubin. The disturbance to the organization of membrane molecules by bilirubin as well as the protective effects of serum albumin are discussed on the basis of the experimental results.
scite is a Brooklyn-based organization that helps researchers better discover and understand research articles through Smart Citations–citations that display the context of the citation and describe whether the article provides supporting or contrasting evidence. scite is used by students and researchers from around the world and is funded in part by the National Science Foundation and the National Institute on Drug Abuse of the National Institutes of Health.
