Aluminum borate whiskers of 0.5-1.0 p m diameter and alumina particles of 10-20 p m diameter were coated with SnO, by the reaction of SnC14-H,0-N, gas mixtures in a rotary kiln reactor. Prior to coating, the whiskers were slightly etched to ensure adhesion between the SnO, layer and the whisker surface. The whiskers were coated at 100°C for 1 h, and then at 300°C for 2 h. This procedure was effective for covering the entire whisker surface with a uniform SnO, layer. Precoating was not necessary for the alumina particles. A compressed disk of the coated whiskers had an electrical conductivity of 30-40 S/m.
ChemInform is a weekly Abstracting Service, delivering concise information at a glance that was extracted from about 100 leading journals. To access a ChemInform Abstract of an article which was published elsewhere, please select a “Full Text” option. The original article is trackable via the “References” option.
scite is a Brooklyn-based organization that helps researchers better discover and understand research articles through Smart Citations–citations that display the context of the citation and describe whether the article provides supporting or contrasting evidence. scite is used by students and researchers from around the world and is funded in part by the National Science Foundation and the National Institute on Drug Abuse of the National Institutes of Health.
