A gigabit rate data link consisting of four custom silicon bipolar chips for transmitting parallel data between elements of a distributed computer system has been developed. A transmission rate of 16 bits in parallel at SOMHZ, or with encoding overhead, a serial rate of lGbit/s is demonstrated. The link utilizes a new encoding scheme that is bandwidth efficient. Unlike other links, the phase/frequency locked loop also provides frame synchronization and requires no trimming for data retiming, either in production or later.
scite is a Brooklyn-based organization that helps researchers better discover and understand research articles through Smart Citations–citations that display the context of the citation and describe whether the article provides supporting or contrasting evidence. scite is used by students and researchers from around the world and is funded in part by the National Science Foundation and the National Institute on Drug Abuse of the National Institutes of Health.
