The direct CP violation parameter Re(epsilon'/epsilon) has been measured from the decay rates of neutral kaons into two pions using the NA48 detector at the CERN SPS. The 2001 running period was devoted to collecting additional data under varied conditions compared to earlier years (1997-1999). The new data yield the result: Re(epsilon'/epsilon) = (13.7 +/- 3.1) x 10(-4). Combining this result with that published from the 1997, 98 and 99 data, an overall value of Re(epsilon'/epsilon) = (14.7 +/- 2.2) x 10(-4) is obtained from the NA48 experiment. The decay rate of K L → π 0 γγ has been measured with the NA48 detector at the CERN SPS. A total of 2558 K L → π 0 γγ candidates have been observed with a residual background of 3.2%. The branching ratio is determined to be (1.36 ± 0.03 (stat) ± 0.03 (syst) ± 0.03 (norm) ) × 10 −6 and the vector coupling constant a v = −0.46 ± 0.03 (stat) ± 0.04 (syst) . This result suggests that the CP-violation effects are dominating in the K L → π 0 e + e − decay. An upper limit for the K L → π 0 γγ decay rate in the two photon mass region m γγ < m π 0 is also given.
Background: Diabetes management apps may have positive effects on diabetes self-management. It remains unclear, however, which app features are particularly effective and encourage sustained app usage. Behavior change techniques (BCTs) and gamification are promising approaches to improve user engagement. However, little is known about the frequency BCTs and gamification techniques (GTs) are actually used. This app review aims to provide an overview of BCTs and GTs in current diabetes management apps. Methods: Google’s Play Store was searched for applications using a broad search strategy (keyword: “diabetes”). We limited our research to freely available apps. A total of 56 apps matched the inclusion criteria and were reviewed in terms of the features they offer to support self-management. We used a taxonomy comprising 29 BCTs and 17 GTs to evaluate the applications. Two independent raters tested and evaluated each app. Results: Interrater agreement was high (ICC = .75 for BCTs; ICC = .90 for GTs). An average of 7.4 BCTs (SD = 3.1) and an average of 1.4 out of 17 GTs (SD = 1.6) were implemented in each app. Five out of 29 BCTs accounted for 55.8% of the BCTs identified in total. The GT most often identified was “feedback” and accounted for 50% of the GTs. Conclusions: The potential of BCTs and GTs in diabetes management apps has not been fully exploited yet. Only very restricted sets of BCTs and gamification features were implemented. Systematic research on the efficacy of specific BCTs and GTs is needed to provide further guidance for app design.
Introduction: As the number of virtual teams increases, it is important to find out how companies can modify their functioning and outcomes. This study investigates the influence of an emotional management intervention on virtual teams’ processes and results. To do so, an input-mediator-output model with 2 mediators, affective and cognitive, is proposed. For the affective mediator, motivation and team engagement are used as a well-being measure, whereas in the cognitive process, team synergy is related to team task performance. Method: This experimental study used 41 virtual teams made up of 164 first-year students enrolled in organizational behavior and work science studies from 2 universities in Spain who were randomly assigned to a control or intervention condition. These groups solved intellective multidecision tasks through electronic communication, also called “survival” tasks. Results: The findings show 2 full mediation effects. Hence, the team emotional management intervention, on the one hand, increases synergy effects, which produce enhanced team task performance (β = .37) and have a positive effect on the motivational processes within the team, thus leading to more team engagement (β = .23). Conclusions: The findings provide guidance to practitioners who aim to improve the functioning of virtual teams, and they have important implications for future research on virtual teams and their functioning.
New measurements of the eta and K-0 masses have been performed using decays to 3pi(0) with the NA48 detector at the CERN SPS. Using symmetric decays to reduce systematic effects, the results M(eta) = 547.843 +/- 0.051 MeV/c(2) and M(K-0) = 497.625 +/- 0.031 MeV/c(2) were obtained
