Contents: Experiments to improve results of ova collection and transfer in cattle by preselection of donors and recipients.
In a first experiment heifers with extreme edema of the vulva, with shortened cycles and with prolonged heat symptoms showed a undesirable superovulatory response (unruptured follicle). In addition a high level of cholesterol was measured in these heifers. The presence of unruptured follicle has a negative effect on number and quality of collected ova. In a second experiment progesterone levels in milk were determined in recipient cows. An increased variation of progesterone levels was found among recipients which remained non‐pregnant after transfer. That indicates the importance of synchrony between donor and recipient animals to achieve high pregnancy rates after transfer.
