Isoflavones are phytoestrogens which have estrogen-like activity in animals and humans. Because of this characteristic influence, the aim of this investigation was to examine the effect of genistein and daidzein on testicular weight and testosterone secretion in ISA Brown roosters. Genistein and daidzein as non-steroid phytoestrogens were added in large amounts to the feed of roosters. Soy isoflavones were added to rooster diets in amounts of 0, 300, 600, 1200 and 1800 mg/kg of feed. At the end of the 37th week no significant differences were found between the groups in testicular weight (P>0.05) and testosterone secretion (P>0.05) measured in the blood of birds. Blood testosterone concentration was significantly higher in younger (20-week-old) roosters than in 37-weekold roosters (P<0.01). Genistein and daidzein present in the feed did not influence the weight of testes and no significant differences were found. Further studies are required to investigate the effect of isoflavones on other androgenic characteristics.
The ore body Vrsnik as a constitutional part of the Buchim ore deposit is the most complex and completely zoned of all four of them. There strictly were distinguished three main ore types: oxide, sulfide and mixed. The oxide ore, that is of major interest within this paper, mainly was developed in shallow or near surface parts, i.e. in the first 20 m from the surface to depth (E660/675), than mixed oxide-sulfide or so-called cementation zone that stretches up to 50m in depth, while below elevation 630 m continues sulfide primary (hypogene) ore. Total quantity of oxide and mixed ore is 5 Mt with an average content of 0,342 % Cu and it represents an important copper raw material for copper leaching facility within the Buchim mine. Total ore reserves within the Vrsnik ore body were calculated at approximately 14 Mt with an average content of 0,305 % Cu.
Calculated ore-bearing coefficient in the Vrshnik ore body was 0.78%, meaning that within the ore body boundaries only 22% of mass is not mineralized somehow, which is highly compatible with remaining three ore bodies within the Buchim porphyry copper mine. The calculated value of variation coefficient (V) has shown value of 70% that is in the range of 43-100%, which displays that this ore body belongs to the third group of deposits with uneven mineralization. An average copper, gold and silver concentrations were determined as 0.305% Cu, 0.18g/t Au and 0.91 g/t Ag, respectively. Minimal economic content (MEC) within the Vršnik ore body, as represent of this kind of mineralization, was determined as 0.160% Cu. In similar manner was calculated the lowest copper boundary (cutoff grade), which have shown value of 0.138% Cu and thus allowing certain decrease of contents in exploited ore. Also, there were calculated so called copper monometal values, which included influence of the present gold and silver in the ore. Calculated copper monometal was set at relatively fair 0.399% Cu that represents solid mainstay for exploitation of copper in these low percentage ores. Calculated ore reserves in this particular ore body were 13 577 267 t of ore with 0.305% Cu, 0.18 g/t Au and 0.91 g/t Ag and increased mine life for additional 6 years.
The process of egg formation and egg quality depend on several biomechanisms that can be modifed by various environmental, genetic and nutritional components. This experiment was performed to estimate the influence of supplementation with dietary isoflavones (daidzein and genistein) in feed on the production performance and egg structure during the first egg production period. Eighty ISA Brown laying hens were randomly divided into four groups, 20 birds per group, and surveyed during 3 consecutive periods (27-42 wks, 43-60 wks and over 60 wks). Concerning diet supplemented with isoflavones (genistein and daidzein), the egg weight was statistically different compared with the control group (confidence interval of 95%) in all the 3 periods of the experiment. The yolk:white ratio was significantly higher in the control group compared with the groups fed with 1000, 2000 and 3000 mg of isoflavones per 1 kg of feed in the periods of 27-42 wks and 43-60 wks (P<0.05).
