Introduction: The present study was undertaken to evaluate the protective activity of 95% hydroalcoholic extract of Barleria Montana leaves against anti-TB drugs induced hepatotoxicity. Methods: Hepatotoxicity was induced by anti-TB drugs once daily for 35 days and simultaneously 95% hydroalcoholic extract of Barleria Montana (250 & 500 mg/kg p.o.) was administered one hour prior administration of anti-TB drugs. Silymarin was used as standard drug (100 mg/kg p.o.). Results: Elevated levels of SGOT, SGPT, ALP, TB & total cholesterol and decreased total HDL following anti-TB drugs administration. Pretreatment of 95% hydroalcoholic extract of Barleria Montana with anti-TB drugs were significantly reduced biochemical markers and increased total HDL. In vivo antioxidant parameters such as SOD, CAT, GSH, GPx and GRx were suppressed in hepatic control animals. Pre treatment of 95% hydroalcoholic extract of Barleria Montana with anti-TB drugs significantly reduced lipid per oxidation and increased antioxidant activities. Conclusion: The result of the present study was indicated that Barleria Montana showed protective effect on liver toxicity induced by anti-TB drugs might be attributed to its antioxidant activity.

ABSTRACTThe anti-inflammatory activity of Vitex NegundoLinn was studied in carrageenan induced paw edema & cotton pellet granuloma in albino rats. The anti-inflammatory activity of the Ethanolic and aqueous extracts (100 & 200mg/kg) were evaluated against the carrageenan induced paw edema of rats were compared with the standard drug Indomethacin. The extract at the test doses of 100 and 200 mg/kg body weight reduced the paw edema induced by Carrageenan by 48.13% and 57.18% respectively, where as the standard drug showed 61.16. The paw edema suppressant effect was significant (P < 0.05) in the dose of 100&200mg/kg ethanol and aqueous extracts.When compared between control and two extracts, Ethanolic extract shows maximum anti-inflammatory activity. Thus it can be concluded that the extract of Vittex Negundo. Linn extract posses the anti-inflammatory activity.
Objective: It was investigated to enlighten the phytochemical screening and antihyperlipidemic activity of seeds of Canavalia ensiformis (L.) in High fat diet Streptozotocin-induced diabetic rats.Methods: The ethanolic seed extract of Canavalia ensiformis (EECE) at a dose of 400 mg/kg and 200 mg/kg was administered to diabetic rats. Simvastatin (4 mg/kg) is used as a standard drug.Results: The statistics were assessed by using one way ANOVA followed by Dunnet’s multiple comparison tests. To unfold the mechanism we studied all the biochemical parameters like Total cholesterol (TC), Triglycerides (TG), high-density lipoproteins (HDL), low-density lipoproteins (LDL) and histopathological examination of Liver tissue section. The ethanolic extracts of seeds of Canavalia ensiformis showed significant reduce of the level of cholesterol, triglycerides, LDL, VLDL and a significant increase in the serum level of HDL at 400 mg/kg rather than 200 mg/kg.Conclusion: Further the characterization and isolation of the constituents could be done to know the exact mechanism of hyperlipidemic activity. Statistical analysis of this screening method conforms that the proposed method is appropriate and it can be useful, gives the basic idea to the researcher who is working in an area like Antihyperlipidemic activity.
