The isolation from Aristolochia maurorum of aristolochic acid is reported, which was identified by mp., UV, IR, NMR and MS. From the quantitative data obtained by direct TLC determination of aristolochic acid in the different plant parts it was concluded that the root and the seed are good sources, containing 0.24 and 0.21% respectively (dried plant material) of aristolochic acid and support the traditional use of this plant.
