ChemInform Abstract A 1:2 molar mixture of the 1,4-dihalo-2-methylbutenes (I) and the potassium alkanoates (II) reacts to produce the diesters (III) in good yields. The potassium salts (II) are dissolved in the corresponding acids prior to starting the reactions. The diesters (III), e.g. (IIIb) may be applied as softeners. A comparison of (IIIb) with the softeners dibutyl phthalate and dibutyl sebacinate reveals that at least the ester (IIIb) may replace the expensive dibutyl compounds as softener.
scite is a Brooklyn-based organization that helps researchers better discover and understand research articles through Smart Citations–citations that display the context of the citation and describe whether the article provides supporting or contrasting evidence. scite is used by students and researchers from around the world and is funded in part by the National Science Foundation and the National Institute on Drug Abuse of the National Institutes of Health.
